 Farewell to two beloved Shumla Interns
Shumla is so proud to be a place where students and young archaeologists can come to intern, grow, expand their skills and move on to fulfilling careers. But it is always sad when the time comes to say goodbye.
At the end of this month, Tim Murphy and Audrey Lindsay will be heading west to California where Tim will take a job as an Archaeologist on the Vandenberg Air Force Base in Lompoc. The silver-lining is that Audrey will continue to work with Shumla remotely on the illustrations she does so well. We will miss their enthusiasm, work ethic, smiling faces and joyful hearts.

 A word from Audrey For me, Shumla has been more than just a place to work. It has been an exciting, engaging, and incredible place to grow both professionally and personally. I can't count the number of times I learned something invaluable, or laughed while we all worked together, or had an irreplaceable opportunity. Shumla's work is entirely unique and so are the amazing people that work here - I'm so very lucky to have been a part of the Shumla team and our tireless mission to preserve these remarkable rock art panels. Luckily for me, I'll be continuing work with Shumla as an independent consultant completing figure illustrations! While I may be working with them at a distance, my Shumla family will always be near my heart. Cheesy, but true! |
 A word from Tim It has been great working for Shumla. Although my time here has been fairly brief, it doesn't take long to know that Shumla is a great organization. The work and research at Shumla is as enjoyable as it is impressive...ground breaking actually. I am glad I was invited to learn and be a part of it. We can all expect great things from Shumla in the near future. I will certainly miss the Shumla family. Farewell, thank you, and cheers! |

Shumla Scholars Go on a Walkabout
This month we took the Shumla Scholars on a Field Trip to Eagle Nest Canyon. They explored rock shelters and phenomenal rock art panels, visited Bonfire Shelter (a bison kill site), and learned about the early people of the Lower Pecos. We were so impressed as we watched them help each other over boulders and work as a team to navigate the deep canyon. After their explorations, our seasoned trekkers visited with owner Jack Skiles to hear about Skiles family legends and thank him for welcoming us onto his land. Finally, the group made a pit stop at the Judge Roy Bean Visitor Center.
