This Week at Grace

What to Expect

Dear Grace,

Thank you for all your prayers, support, and encouragement as I continue in the last months of my pregnancy. I continue to be grateful for good health for me and our baby boy and still covet your prayers (especially if you feel led to pray for cooler temps!). Here's a brief update on what to expect at Grace during my maternity leave. Your church council, staff, and I have been working hard to make sure that the transition is a smooth one and I know it will be. Grace is blessed to be filled with strong leaders and a faithful congregation.

First, Grace has hired Rev. Lee Fullerton, retired clergy, to be a pastoral presence throughout my maternity leave. Lee will serve on a part-time basis and be present as a liturgist and presider at Sunday services, meet pastoral needs, and be an administrative support to our staff, leaders, and interns. He has served a variety of churches in his long career, most recently retiring from Embry Hills UMC. He and his wife Karen have visited Grace before.  Be on the lookout for a time when you can officially meet and welcome them.

Second, Grace is privileged to have gifted preachers among our congregation, in our greater area, and through our connection with Global Ministries. Each week you will be blessed to hear from guest preachers with diverse backgrounds and experiences bringing the word of God to our community. Worship themes and music are planned through January and you are in for inspiring worship throughout the fall, Advent and Christmas seasons!

Finally, our ministries, which connect us to one another and the community, are led by YOU and will continue with the same excellence, faithfulness and joy that they always have. I'm proud to be pastor of a church with so many gifted people willing to give of their time, resources, and selves for the sake of following the Gospel in our particular community.

My due date is October 3, and as long as I am healthy I plan to work and be with you until I give birth. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

I look forward to seeing on Sunday for worship at 11am AND for lunch following. We'll be sharing lunch with our new neighbors from Global Ministries who have started working in the building this week. We'll share stories and conversation in our newly renovated fellowship hall (the first meal in the space!) and then take a tour of the renovated building. Our own Chef Jess is cooking the meal-you don't want to miss it. Think about who you can invite!

Grace and peace,

Kate

Our NEXT book: Good Food: Grounded Practical Theology by Jennifer Ayers.

Christians in the US are on a quest for good food. And yet at every turn, they confront brokenness in the food system. Good Food is a practical theology grounded in a rich ethnographic study of the food practices of diverse faith communities and populations. This book equips readers with the theological and practical tools needed to safeguard that which sustains us: food.

Facilitated by Pastor Kate; for questions or more information: office@graceonponce.org or 404.876.2678
