This Week at Grace

Kicking Off Fall!

Dear Grace,

Pencils are sharp; backpacks are packed, and school bells are ringing. Metro Atlanta area schools start back this week and next. We hold all students, parents, teachers, staff and administrators in our prayers for this season of new beginnings.

To celebrate and welcome the rhythm of a new school year, Grace is having a fall kick-off this Sunday and we hope to see YOU! Join us for all the opportunities this Sunday and throughout the fall, and think about who you can invite.

Fall Kick-Off Worship and Celebration
Sunday, August 7th, 11am
Potluck following worship

Join Grace as we kick-off the fall with celebratory worship, a blessing for all those going back to school, and lunch together.

Over the past few years we've discerned that our vision together centers on food: nourishing ourselves and our community spiritually and physically. We have gifts for hospitality and feeding and find great joy and justice in the practice of eating together. Therefore, our theme for the fall, in worship, study, and mission is: A Place at the Table. We'll kick-off this series August 7th, which will also include a blessing for all those part of the educational system, from pre-school to grad school. And of course, we have to kick-off our fall of food and faith by eating together!

For the potluck: barbecue pulled pork, fried chicken and drinks will be provided. Please bring a side or dessert if you are able.

Join Grace's Fall Kick-Off Choir

Kick-off the fall by lifting your voice in song. All are welcome to sing an easy and accessible anthem during worship on August 7th. If you'd like to sing, gather this Sunday the 7th at 10:30am in the sanctuary and share your gifts with our community. Questions or more information? Contact Michael Dauterman: dauterman.michael@gmail.com.

New Opportunities for Children and Youth

Music and Worship Arts, 1st Sunday of the month, 9:30-10am, Children's Area

Beginning this week, children and youth of all ages are invited to learn, sing and play together as they learn more about worship.

See you for our fall kick-off this Sunday and think about who you can bring with you!

GRACE READS
TOMORROW - Thursday, August 4th, 7pm, Starbucks on Ponce (Whole Foods Plaza)

Read and discuss thought-provoking books as we journey in faith together - every 1st Thursday at 7pm.

All are welcome; please invite others to join you at 7pm on Thursday, Aug. 4th at Starbucks in the Whole Foods Plaza; 650 Ponce de Leon Ave. at Glen Iris.

Our book: Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life by Barbara Kingsolver.

Author Barbara Kingsolver and her family abandoned the industrial-food pipeline to live a rural life - vowing that for one year, they'd only buy food raised in their own neighborhood, grow it themselves, or learn to live without it. Part memoir, part journalistic investigation, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle is an enthralling narrative that will open your eyes in a hundred new ways to an old truth: You are what you eat.
