This Week at Grace

One Wild and Precious Life
Dear Grace,

Summer is here! The days are long, the sun bright, and the rhythm slow. Each year I return to Mary Oliver's poem "The Summer Day" at the start of the season as a reminder to pay attention to all that God has created and called good. I share it with you below, as I do every year, in hopes that you will join me in letting this be your prayer today and throughout the coming months:

The Summer Day
By Mary Oliver

Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean-
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down-
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life? We'll ask this question of ourselves on Sunday as we answer Jesus' call to "follow me." This will be Chuck Bell's last Sunday as interim music director at Grace, so I hope to see you for worship at 11am as we say thank you and prepare for what's next. Think about who you can invite!

Grace and peace,

Kate

HOLIDAY WEEKEND HYMN SING!

On Sunday, July 3rd, join Grace for a service filled with singing. What's your favorite hymn to sing? Love belting out "Amazing Grace"? Or is "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" more your style?

We want to know what YOU want to sing. Email your three (3) favorite hymns to candi (office@graceonponce.org) by this Friday, June 24th. We'll tally the top vote-getters and be ready to sing them together on July 3rd at 11am.
