Gratitude and Blessings as School Suspends for the Summer

Dear Grace,

Today is the last day of school for many in the Atlanta area. Our prayers are with the students, teachers, staff and administrators in our local public and private schools as well as colleges and universities. We are grateful for the gift of education and all those who pursue and share knowledge. God calls on us to renew our minds and we celebrate those who dedicate their lives to the gift of learning.

To all the students and staff in the educational system, we offer our thanks and this blessing (originally posted here: http://revgalprayerpals.blogspot.com/2007/05/prayer-for-last-day-of-school.html):

Dearest God,

We come to you today and recognize your hand in our lives.
We look on this last day of school with recognition
of the knowledge and wisdom that you have granted to us.
We come to you now and ask that you would have today be a new beginning for each of us.
That we will look to our education, our classes and learnings
not as something that is for us,
but as preparation to make the world a better place.
We thank you for the knowledge that you have given us
and seek to use this knowledge to fulfill your purposes in the world around us.

During this time of transition we ask that you would grant us faith, courage, and purpose.
Help guide us to serve you in everything that we do.
It is only through you that we can truly find purpose and meaning in this life,
and we seek you in our pursuit of knowledge, truth, and purpose.
Help us to continue seeking truth and knowledge
as we step into our summer -- our time of rest.

We trust you and thank you for the journey of life that you have given us.
Thank you for this day and each and every day that we walk with you.

Our prayer is to know you more with each passing day and to constantly thank you for your grace and your goodness.

Amen.

We particularly celebrate our own Axel Hernandez who graduates from Grady High School tomorrow!

See you for worship on Sunday at 11am and think about who you can invite. And traveling mercies for those of you who will be away this holiday weekend.

Grace and peace,

Kate

Our next book-Pastrix by Nadia Bolz Weber. Weber's NY Times bestseller reclaims the term "pastrix," referring to the refusal to recognize female pastors. Patrix is a "messy, beautiful, prayer-and-profanity laden narrative about an unconventional life of faith." Weber never considered herself to be faith leader material until she "ended up leading a friend's funeral in a smoky downtown comedy club. Surrounded by fellow alcoholics, depressives, and cynics, she realized: These were her people. Maybe she was meant to be their pastor."
