You know that feeling you get on a perfect summer's day? The sense that everything is exactly right: who you are, where you are, even why you are? Your whole self expands into the warmth of the sunshine, glories in the colors and scent of the flowers, revels in the fact that you don't need to cocoon yourself against the cold.

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees
on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water,
or watching the clouds float across the sky,
is by no means a waste of time.

~ John Lubbock

That's the feeling you get when you've achieved a loving, lasting romance. It might start small; it certainly takes dedication, effort, and sheer hard work. But in the end, that warmth, that sense of fulfillment, is there. It's the big payoff. and it never fails to appear. The summer of our contentment is our reward for having weathered the hardships of winter.

Love is when two people know everything about each other
and are still friends.
~ Anonymous

Loneliness is not a natural state. The longing for warmth, both physical and emotional, is part of our human makeup. It's what keeps us striving even when things look tough. If you have already connected lovingly with another human being, then bask in the glow of that connection.

In a true partnership, the kind worth striving for,
the kind worth insisting on,... both people try to give as much as
or even a little more than they get.
"Deserves" is not the point. And "owes" is certainly not the point.
The point is to make the other person as happy as we can,
because their happiness adds to ours.
The point is: In the right hands, everything that you give, you get.
