RV shows are in full swing all across America. For dealers and manufacturers, it's a chance to show off what's new. For consumers, it's a chance to take a close look at some of the RVs you may only have read about over the winter.

It's also a chance to start dreaming about (and planning!) the trips you'll take when the weather turns warmer.

As Traveling Times readers know, we're rolling out quite a few exciting new models at various shows, including three based on the Ram ProMaster chassis: the Travato, Winnebago Trend and  Itasca Viva! New models also include two attractively priced diesel pushers, the Winnebago Forza and Itasca Solei, plus the new Winnebago Destination fifth wheel.

For 2014, you'll also find new floorplans, new features and, of course, stylish new interior and exterior treatments throughout our lineup.

HiddenGemAZHidden Gem: Sedona, Arizona

Glowing brilliant red and orange when struck by the rising or setting sun, the famous red rock formations of Sedona, Arizona -- Coffeepot, Cathedral, and Thunder Mountain -- have beckoned travelers for years. (In fact, Sedona may look familiar to you, having served as backdrop for more than 60 Hollywood feature films.) Factor in a dry and temperate climate with plenty of sunshine, loads of outdoor activities, numerous galleries and entertainment options, plus a full schedule of arts and cultural events and you've got the perfect getaway destination. Sedona is located in the northern Verde Valley region between Flagstaff and Phoenix.

RearviewBraveIn the Rearview Mirror: 1974 Winnebago Brave

It was a time when hair (well, men's hair anyway) was long, pants were flared, colors were bold and the 1974 Winnebago Brave was the cat's meow.

The '74 Brave was built on a Dodge chassis with a 318 cubic-inch V-8, and incorporated our (then) new Thermo-Steel construction. It was offered in three floorplans, the 19-foot D-19, the D-21 and the D-21T, the latter featuring a rear dining area that converted to two twin beds or one large king bed. (Sounds a bit like our Flex Bed system of today!)

You could choose a Lemon or Lime interior color scheme, while sound system options started with an AM radio (with clock) and culminated in the AM/FM multiplex radio/tape player (with clock).

Times have changed, but there's something eternal in the appeal of a home on wheels. We're delighted that we have been a major part of America's great RV trip, and we look forward to helping more and more people discover the thrill of the open road.

Nobody else in the industry builds motorhomes the way we do. And while the best way to truly understand that is to tour our factory here in Forest City, Iowa, we understand that's not always practical.

So we're delighted to point you to the latest video on our YouTube channel, where you can tour the factory that revolutionized the RV industry, from the comfort of your own home.

When we asked for tips from experienced RVers on our Facebook page, we may have gotten more than we bargained for! A few of the more noteworthy comments:
  • "If you don't use an item on a longer trip, remove it from the rig!"
  • "Less is more." (a recurring theme)
  • "I stack our shower with all the outdoor supplies. Grill, chairs, tent. It's out of the way until we reach our next stop!"
  • As a single woman traveling alone, I would always set up two chairs outdoors and I had a pair of used work boots on the step. However, I never felt threatened in five years of full time traveling."
  • "You can never have too much toilet paper."
  • "Leave the wife at home." (tongue in cheek, we hope!)

Here is a quick and tasty appetizer recipe for the Big Game, shared by Johnny Michaels

of "somewhere out west." A small memento is on its way to Mr. Michaels with our thanks

for the recipe.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Take a tube of crescent rolls, separate and press onto a 9 x 12 cookie sheet.

Place fresh sliced mushrooms (you can also use canned) on top.

Sprinkle freshly grated parmesan cheese on top of the mushrooms.

Sprinkle with Italian seasonings for additional taste.

Bake 10-20 minutes until golden brown, then serve while still warm!

Delightful!

We use a double-bulb wipe seal to lock out moisture and squeegee our sliderooms each time they cycle in or out.

Others use cheaper, less effective and less durable seals.
