Thumbs Up for the WIT Club Grand
National Rally Roundup
We recently bade
farewell to some 2,000 guests (who arrived in nearly 1,000 RVs!) for the WIT Club Grand National Rally.
The weather cooperated, the entertainment was great, the food better than ever, and all enjoyed themselves (and most even behaved themselves!) - in short, a good time was had by all.
If you missed it, you can catch some great highlight reels here. And of course, it's never too early to start planning for next year, so pencil in July 16-20, 2014, for the next rally, "It's going to be Out of this World!" |
Better than French Fries?
A recipe recently crossed our desk that claimed to be better than that dietary staple, the French fry.
After thorough testing, we're pretty sure we've got at least a tie on our hands in terms of flavor. But when it comes down to preparation, the contender takes the title, hands down!
Starting with one russet potato or sweet potato per person. Slice each potato widthwise almost all the way through. Drizzle with olive oil, sea salt and freshly ground pepper.
Put on the grill or bake at 425° for 40 minutes (adjust for your convection or other oven).
Bon appetit!

Hidden Gem: South Dakota's Custer State Park
Mount Rushmore is South Dakota's most famous tourist landmark. Custer State Park, just 30 miles from Mount Rushmore, may be less well known, but it's no less impressive - as long as you like scenic beauty, wildlife and outdoor adventure.

Located in the southern Black Hills, this large 71,000-acre park is home to 1,300 roaming buffalo, elk, deer, antelope, bighorn sheep and begging burros. Slender granite formations called "Needles" arc into the skyline, and Needles Highway is perfect backdrop for a beautiful drive that's a favorite among sightseers. The park also features four mountain lakes and numerous outdoor adventures.
For more information, visit the Custer State Park website or the Travel South Dakota web page.

Welcome to the newest Traveling Times, sent to you every month or so. Our aim is to introduce you to new people and places, and enhance your enjoyment of RVing.
Although Labor Day seems to come sooner every year, Fall is actually a perfect time for an RV adventure: the bugs are gone, and so are the crowds. Add in cool nights for sleeping and warm days for - well, for whatever you like to do! - and you'll realize why so many RVers "fall for fall" every year.
By the way, if you've got a tip, recipe or story to pass along, click here to send it in. (But since all submissions become the property of Winnebago Industries, please send in only something you'd like to share with others.)
Happy reading, and feel free to

Nothing 'mini' about it?
We're big fans of the new Winnebago Minnie Winnie 31K (and its sister, the Itasca Spirit 31K). And judging by the comments in the summer issue of Better RVing, we're not the only ones.
To quote the article (which begins on page 10), "There's unbelievable storage in this coach... Look at all the space-there's nothing 'mini' about it."
One of the secrets to all that space, of course, is our SmartSpace approach to design. That approach also helps the 31K deliver such outstanding sleeping flexibility, including a private bedroom with walkaround queen bed, sofa bed, and cab overhead bed.
There's more to the article than talking about the spacious feel of the 6'10" ceilings, the Minnie Winnie's ability to sleep 8 comfortably, and the value for the price point. Better RVing also noted the "great power in the engine. This coach's interstate entrance is phenomenal." You can test that and more for yourself by heading to your nearest Winnebago dealer.

Also in the news...

The Itasca Meridian 34B was recently featured in MotorHome Magazine. The review goes into quite a bit of detail on everything from performance to driving ergonomics to lounge, galley, bath and bedroom, and is well worth the read. You can find it here, but we can't resist giving away the ending:

"By diesel-pusher standards, the Meridian's stature is on the small side, but aside from its physical length, there's nothing small about the 34B. The floorplan is entertainment-friendly, and of course, it's perfect for a couple looking for a big dose of luxury."
To see the 34B in person, visit your nearest Itasca dealer, or see it online here.
