Grade 4 - Seek God This Summer

Mrs. Clark's fourth graders used their Family Friday presentation to remind everyone to continue to seek God over the summer break. This is such an important message! The following is the script for their presentation:
May has begun, and with that, we start to countdown to the end of the school year and summer break! Are you ready for summer break? I'm sure all of you would say YES! to that question.
We are too! We can't wait to sleep in, swim, play sports, seek attractions, go on vacations, visit with friends and family, and eat ice cream and s'mores!
But let me ask you; Does God take the summer off? NO!
Can we put God on a shelf for two months and come back to him in the fall? NO!
Does summer get top priority over our faith and God? NO!
Today, we are going to show you how you can enjoy your summer break, but also seek God this summer!
Without having to get up for school, we enjoy sleeping in during the summer! No alarm clocks or parents waking us up from our "beauty sleep". It is so nice!
Sleeping in makes us feel rested and rejuvenated, but what rejuvenates our faith? Celebrating our faith with others! Be sure to set the alarm this summer - yes, I know - but just on SUNDAYS, so you can go to Mass, where you can celebrate your faith with others!
Swimming in the nice, cool water is one of our favorite things to do in the summer. It is so fun and relaxing!
Swimming is a great way to beat the heat, but what do we do when we feel the HEAT of our wrongdoings, disappointment of others, or pain we have caused? We can participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation! How great is it that we can be forgiven for our sins ANY TIME, yes, even during summer! This summer SWIM in the mercy and grace of God.
Playing sports in the summer is so fun! We love to play baseball, volleyball, basketball, and football with our friends.
Sports are a great way to get exercise while having fun with friends during the summer, but how should we be treating our teammates? Be sure to use teamwork and use sportsmanship in your summer sports activities so that others can see God shining through you and the way you handle yourself, both in winning and defeat.
There are so many attractions that we have time to see in the summer! We are looking forward to going to museums, Holiday World, Disney, and state parks!
Often in summertime we set aside time, schedule, write on our calendars when we are going to see fun attractions such as museums, but are you scheduling time to sit down and focus on God? Seek not only attractions this summer, but also seek God by actually scheduling or setting aside time each day to read the bible or pray quietly.
Summer is a great time to go on vacations! Our class is excited to go to places such as Rio, our lake houses, the beach, and even on a cruise!
Summer time is the PERFECT time to take a family vacation, but what do you notice when you go to a new place? The beauty of God is everywhere! Take time on your vacation this summer to soak in the beauty of God AND say a prayer of thanks for all that beauty that God has made JUST FOR US!
Summer break gives us extra time to visit with our family and friends. All of our friends are out of school too, and sleepovers are more likely when there are no "school nights"!
It is so fun to visit with friends and family during the summer, but do you remember what God told us about caring for others? Treat others as you want to be treated! This summer, don't just visit with friends and family, but find a special way to show them just HOW MUCH you care about them and love them.
Summertime comes with sweet treats that we love to enjoy. Ice cream on a hot day, and s'mores by the campfire at night!
Ice cream and s'mores are delicious, but what feeds your soul? God and the Holy Spirit! Be sure to go to Mass each weekend this summer to receive the Bread of Life in the celebration of the Eucharist.
We hope everyone has a strong finish to the school year and stays focused in spite of "spring fever". We also hope that you remember, as fun as summer break can be, it is also a time for us to grow in our faith and seek God in our lives. Thank you!

School Uniform Collection
If you have any gently used uniforms your children have outgrown and/or you would like to donate
to a great cause, please leave them in your child's classroom, or drop them off at the office.

And don't forget, during the summer months, uniforms can be dropped off at the Child Care Center located in Gootee Hall, better know as the church basement.

All donated items will be available at Registration as part of JPII's Uniform Gifting Extravaganza on Sunday, July 17, 2016, in the Activity Building.

Thanks for your generous contribution - for without each of you this program would not exist.
Grade 2

The second graders are participating in a program called "Footprints for Life".  They learn about IMessages, bullying, and being helpful and friendly.

The second grade enjoyed "kid mint juleps" in preparation for Derby activities.

The second graders spent Tuesday learning about our community transportation history.  They rode the oldest Steamboat in the states, The Belle of Louisville, and visited Howard Steamboat Museum. They learned about the port and stern side of the steamboat, danced in the ballroom and visited the captain's quarters.

Derby Activities
JPII's annual Derby Festivities were held last Thursday. We had it all - Derby hats, horse races, balloon races, steamboats (wagon races), fashion, the crowds, etc.!!!!!
