Pope Francis 2015
The students viewed a part of Pope Francis's historic speech to the combined members of Congress and other guests.  Like those that sat in the chamber and galleries in the capitol, our students were so interested, and gave their full attention to the Holy Father.

Archdiocese External Review Report
As you may remember, St. John Paul II Catholic School was one of the schools visited as part of an external review of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis conducted by AdvancEd.  The AdvanceEd team shared their preliminary findings at a meeting in Indianapolis.  The school system was ranked highest on the Index of Education Quality (IEQ) titled "Teaching and Learning."  The system was commended for having Supportive Learning Environments, High Expectation Environments, and Well Managed Learning Environments.

As a school and an Archdiocese we are proud of the high quality teaching and learning that takes place each day.  It is rewarding for this to be recognized by the national accreditation team.

Principal Karen Haas with Rob Rash, Assistant Superintendent, and Gina Fleming, Superintendent of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis
Music
Grade 6 has been practicing note and rest values in different meters and have now transitioned into reading music.

Grade 5 has been learning new recorder fingerings and practicing following conductor cues.

Grade 4 has started reading some new choral music with repeat signs, first and second ending, and codas which are endings for a song.

Kindergarten
Mrs. Kist's class practiced identifying and sequencing numbers 0-10 with some fun fall math puzzles.

Mrs. Milliner's "bubbly group" enjoyed a special reward!
Grade 3
The third graders enjoyed a visit from their friend and former classmate Rowan.  It was fun asking him about his new school in Florida.

Important Information for All Parent Volunteers

All adults who have contact with the children of St. John Paul II Catholic School must complete the Safe and Sacred Training. This includes volunteering in the classroom, helping with class parties, going on field trips, coaching sports, etc. Please log in to the website described below and complete your training as soon as possible. At the end of the program you will be able to print out a certificate to turn into the office or if you cannot print one, notify the school office that you have completed the training.

Safe + Sacred
The Archdiocese of Indianapolis has an online training program called Safe and Sacred as part of its ongoing commitment to the care and protection of children. All priests, deacons, employees of parishes, schools and agencies of the archdiocese, and volunteers who have contact with children must complete the training, even if they have taken other child protection programs.
The course is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week at
www.safeandsacred-archindy.org. It takes about 45 minutes to complete and can be done in parts over a series of days. Thank you in advance for your participation in this training and your commitment to the protection of children.

P.E. - A Note from Mrs. Cahalan
I am thrilled with the school-wide participation in our first quarter physical education FIT challenge.  So far over 40 students have returned a completed activity sheet with over 900 hours of documented activity, and many others have enthusiastically shared the activities they have participated in over the last few months.  I have loved hearing all of the creative ways families have become active this quarter. I would like to thank everyone for encouraging their child(ren) to take part in this experience.  Students who would like to receive credit for their participation should return their forms to school by October 26.
