Congratulations!
Brent was very excited to hear his name called as the winner of the iPad for the Walk-a-Thon drawing.  Thank you for the generous donations and to all that volunteered!

Our Students Really "Stepped Up"
Our annual Walk-a-Thon was paired with an outreach program that allowed our students to help others while helping their school.  The students collected shoes for Haiti.  Please follow this link to read the article that we had in the News and Tribune on Saturday, September 12th.

The 5th & 6th graders had a great time spending the day at the Silver Creek Little League Park for the Walk-a-Thon.

Grades K-4 walked around the neighborhoods surrounding St. John Paul II Catholic School. It was a great day for students, faculty, staff, parents and grandparents!

Grade 5
Mrs. Meyer's 5th grade class worked on their math skills when creating these color wheel bicycles in art.  The class discussed the radius and diameter of a circle.  Then, they used a compass to draw the circles used as the wheels.  They reviewed how to use a protractor and used one to draw the angles needed in the circle to hold each color.  They also used the straightedge of the protractor to create the diameter lines within the circle. Who knew that learning so much math in one art project could actually be fun?!

We are excited to be offering several new styles of spirit wear. The flyer showing the new design styles was sent home yesterday. The order forms are due back to school with checks made payable to St. John Paul II Catholic School by Monday, September 21.

We have a short window to get the shirts back to us quickly, and will not be able to accept orders after the September 21st deadline.

Choose your favorite style (or two) and show your JPII Pride!
ST. JOHN PAUL II CATHOLIC SCHOOL
CHOSEN TO REPRESENT THE ARCHDIOCESE OF INDIANAPOLIS DURING EXTERNAL REVIEW

St. John Paul II Catholic School was visited this week by a team of professionals as part of the System Accreditation of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. St. John Paul II was one of the eight elementary schools chosen in the Archdiocese which spans across central and southern Indiana to be visited by the AdvancED External Review Team. The team members represented educators from across the United States. Our visitors interviewed Mrs. Haas, and observed many of the teachers. We were very proud to have been chosen by the Office of Catholic Schools to represent the many schools in the Archdiocese. Mrs. Gina Fleming, Superintendent of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, gave this advice to Mrs. Haas and the teachers concerning the visit "Just be your wonderful selves. You were chosen for a reason!"

The accrediting body of AdvancED asks schools and school systems to continually improve quality. Accreditation is the recognition that is granted to institutions that continually: aspire to meet a set of rigorous standards, utilize feedback from all stakeholder groups, and make changes to instruction and learning environments based on student performance. The External Review is only one part of a much larger, ongoing effort of school improvement.

The AdvancED team will create a report on their findings over the course of their four day visit to the Archdiocese. Although the report will not critique individual schools, the evaluators that visited did seem to be impressed with our new initiatives to use data to track and improve student performance growth and participate in professional development to aid in the integration of technology. There was also importance placed on how our school's environment allows for there to be many advocates for each child in its care.

We are always proud of our school, and enjoyed the opportunity to "show off" at the national level!
