The Mission Committee Film Series:
The final film in the Instruments of Change - A Journey in Search of One's Identity series on Friday, May 6th at 7:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall will be Abrazos (Embraces) (2015) Director: Luis Argueta
Abrazos is about the transformational journey of a group of U.S. citizen children, sons and daughters of undocumented immigrants, who travel from Minnesota to Guatemala to meet their grandparents -and in some instances, their siblings-for the first time. 4.5 million U.S. born children have at least one parent who is undocumented. This is the story of 14 of them.
Admission is free. A discussion will follow each film.
St. Francis Visits Laundry Love on May 12th What would it be like not to be able to afford to do your laundry? Unfortunately, for many in our society that is a harsh reality. Through the Laundry Love ministry of the Rev. Meredyth Ward on the second Thursday of every month between 100 and 150 loads of laundry get done at no charge for those in need. In addition to paying for loads of laundry, fragrance free detergent and dryer sheets are provided, pizza and juice are served, and there are fun activities for children in attendance. St. Francis will be helping to support the May Laundry Love event that will take place on Thursday, May 12 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Suds Up Laundromat, 540 Southbridge Street in Worcester. Volunteers are welcome to attend. Also, leading up to the date we will be collecting FRAGRANCE FREE detergent and FRAGRANCE FREE fabric softener sheets, juice boxes, and money to cover the cost of the loads of laundry and the pizza. Donations of detergent, fabric softener sheets, and juice boxes can be placed in the collection containers in the narthex and monetary donations can either be sent to the church office with a notation that it is intended for Laundry Love or they can be placed in the water jug marked "Laundry Love Donations" in the narthex. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support of this important ministry in the Worcester Corridor of the Diocese.
Habitat for Humanity Build Day Save the date. May 21st is our annual Habitat for Humanity build day. This year we will be building a child's playhouse for the family of a veteran with a child 6 years old or under. We will be working in two shifts, the first in the morning starting at 7:30 a.m. and finishing at lunchtime, and the second beginning at lunchtime and finishing at 4:00 p.m. Lunch will be served to both groups and there will be an unveiling at the end of the day. We are seeking 10 volunteers, age 16 or older, for each shift. If you are interested, please sign up in the Narthex or contact Kathy Diehl (khdiehl@charter.net), Dick Welch (welch96@charter.net) or Esteban Loustaunau (eloustaunau@assumption.edu). More information to follow.
