A Message from the Rector

Dear Friends in Christ,

Fall is here and the leaves will soon be turning. The fall is certainly a busy time for everyone and as I continue to enter into the full life of this vibrant community I give thanks for the many wonderful things that we have done in the past few weeks! In the spirit of this fall season, we have been asked by Bishop Fisher to "turn" our attention for a time to the blessings of our created world, for a time of celebrating a "Season for Creation." The season will begin this coming Sunday, Oct 5 (Saint Francis Day!) as we gather for our annual Blessing of the Animals and will conclude on Sunday, Nov 23 (Christ the King). Throughout this Season for Creation, we hope to participate in various events that bring our attention to the many and various blessings of our world, beginning with our focus on the animals we have been entrusted to care for as stewards of God's love.

MaryAnn DiPinto recently joined many others who participated in the Peoples' Climate March in NYC and we hope to participate in many additional ways as well. To read the letter for the Season for Creation, please click here.

"God Almighty, who has filled the world with beauty: Open our eyes to behold your gracious hand in all your works; that, rejoicing in your whole creation, we may learn to serve you with gladness" (taken from the prayer for "Joy in God's Creation," BCP)

Faithfully,

Pat

Coming up...

Feast of St. Francis...Our annual celebration of the Feast of St. Francis will be this weekend, October 4/5. The Blessing of the Animals will be held on Sunday, October 5th at 3:00 p.m. in the Memorial Garden. Rain or shine.

Church Mouse Fair...Saturday, October 18, 2014

 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon

Attic Treasures-Donations of good, clean usable items: glassware, pictures, linens, craft supplies, tools, books, CD's, DVD's, puzzles, toys, jewelry and misc. (Please note: we cannot accept tires, paint, cribs, infant car seats or carriers, furniture, television sets, computers, encyclopedias, textbooks, or subscription magazines.)

Re-gift Boutique-This year we will have a new area for those items which are in mint condition and/or never used. These wouldn't be Attic Treasures. These would be items which you would give to someone else, but you just can't remember who gave it to you in the first place. Or it wasn't your style, didn't fit with your decor, etc. and has been sitting in your closet taking up space.

Drop-Off Times for the above items will start on Sunday, October 12th after the 10:00 a.m. service until 1:00 p.m. and throughout the week-October 13-17 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Please note: Due to limited space we are unable to take donations before Sunday the 12th.

Baked Goods - This is a best seller at our fair. We are looking for donations of pies, cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and breads. In particular, we would like to encourage items in half sizes or smaller portions for the benefit of senior citizens who would enjoy some homemade goods without the necessity of eating a whole cake on their own. When making your donation, it would be most helpful if you would note either "nuts" or "no nuts" or if your item is "gluten-free", please note that as well. Drop-Off Time Friday, October 17 from10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Crafters- Crafter's have been working on items over the summer. If you've been working on items at home or would like to do so please let us know.

Truck Drivers- At least two pick-up trucks with drivers are needed to take leftovers to Savers in Lincoln Plaza in Worcester when the fair is over. We often have several boxes of books and miscellaneous items which won't all fit in cars easily.

Sorters- During the week before the fair, even an hour of your time would be so much appreciated. All are welcome to bring friends with you! For high school students who need service hours this coming fall, this is a terrific opportunity to fill that need and also help us to help others!

For more information, questions, suggestions, etc., please call Donna Alarie at (508) 847-8574 or email at Donnachesspals@gmail.com

Sign-up sheets for volunteers will be in the narthex in the next few weeks.

From Mary Been - Our Minister of Music

Hello everybody.  I'm almost three weeks out from the surgery.  As expected, there are good days and bad days.  My body doesn't do well with the narcotic pain meds, so I'm on extra strength Tylenol every six hours, with the pain meds only M/W/F before the physical therapist comes.  PLEASE pray for my very stubborn knee to BEND. That's my biggest concern right now.  Meanwhile, know that I miss all of you very much, and am grateful to Deborah for doing such a good job of filling in for me, and to the faithful core choir who continue to be there to lead the music.  THOSE WHO SING PRAY TWICE.  Mary
