Birthday Celebration and Open Mic Night...

On Saturday February 23rd following the 5:00 p.m. service there will be a birthday celebration for Mary Ann DiPinto.  All are invited to come....and in lieu of birthday gifts, Mary Ann has requested donations to support Tom and Dianne Wilson's mission work in El Salvador. Their current need is $150 to print and bind hymnals for their church congregations.

There will be an open mic for anyone who would like to sing or play an instrument.

For questions about music or food for the evening you can contact MaryAnn (mad219@charter.net) or Nancy Rogers (nviro22@yahoo.com).

*Pancakes and Sausages  $5 in advance, $6 at the door

Shrove Tuesday is the last day before Lent begins, on Ash Wednesday. The word "shrove" is a form of the old English word "to shrive" --which means to confess. On Shrove Tuesday people can   confess their sins as the season of Lent begins. Although the name Shrove Tuesday points us toward the beginning of Lent and its emphasis upon repentance, the French name for this day ("Mardi Gras," or "Fat Tuesday") probably helps to better explain the tradition of eating pancakes (and sausages) on the day before Lent begins. It is a day of celebration, and a chance to party before entering into a time of abstinence and fasting. Pancakes contain fat, butter, eggs, and sugar--all of which were forbidden during Lent.

At St. Francis we gather to not only to participate in this old tradition but to make friends and connections with one another; it's a time of fellowship that brings us together.

Easter Festival Choir...

Second Chance. If you missed the Christmas Festival Choir, fear not, you can join the Easter Festival Choir.

Rehearsals will be after the Saturday service and after the Sunday 10:00 a.m. service during Lent, which begins on March 9 (Saturday service on March 8). If you are interested in singing for the Easter services, the Easter Vigil, Palm Sunday or Maundy Thursday services (all, or just one or two), please talk to Mary Been. Remember, THOSE WHO SING PRAY TWICE!

Newcomer Luncheon...

Our next Newcomer Event will be held immediately after the 10:00 a.m. service, Sunday March 9, 2014 at the St. Clare House. All who are interested in getting to know both Newcomers and Old-timers alike, or who have been unable to attend one of these events in the past and would like to this time, please sign up in the Narthex or by contacting Randy Wilburn at rkwilburn@comcast.net or 413-687-5568. Light lunch fare will be served. On site child care is available upon request.
