14th District Selling Maple Syrup
  
The 14th District Officers Association is selling Pure OHIO Maple Syrup as a fundraiser. The syrup is made in Athens County and a 12 oz. bottle is selling for $12.00. 
  
This particular Maple Syrup has a very distinct and robust flavor!
  
See any District Officer, at Inspections, or contact one to pick up a bottle or two before they're sold out!
  
14th District Quarterly Meeting
The quarterly meeting of the 14th District Masonic Officers Association was held on Thursday, May 28th.
  
WB Mike Saum, President called the meeting to order. After the Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States, WB Saum recognized five Past Presidents of the District in attendance.

Items presented during the meeting included;
  • The passing of WB Fred Henderson, Master of Ralph R. Rickly #761
  • WB Tim Rice, 1st Vice President explained the possibility of the District hosting a CCW "Legal Issues" Class.
  • Masonic Home Day on Sunday, June 7th, at the Springfield Campus. The District Officers will be selling fried Bologna Sandwiches.
  • WB Ken Cohen, DEO, announced that there were 21 graduates of the SYSK Classes for this term.
  • There are four Inspections left in the state and they are in the 14th District.
  • The District Picnic will be held on Sunday, August 9 at Highbanks Metro Park in the Northern Shelter at 1:00 p.m.
WB Saum thanked WB Call, Master of Whitehall Lodge #761 for hosting the meeting.

September 24, 2015 will be the next meeting of the District Officers Association. This will be the District Quarterly meeting and Awards and will be held at Luther B. Turner Lodge on Valleyview Dr.
  
DGM Rollout Scheduled
Grand Lodg Seal                    
RWB Robert C. Rill, Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Ohio has scheduled the Rollout plans for the next Grand Lodge term. The date is Tuesday, August 4th starting at 7:30 p.m. and will be held at Northland Masonic Temple at 5885 Cleveland Ave.
  
Any brother is welcomed to attend. It's expected that the Sr. Warden, and Jr. Warden be in attendance so they can be better prepared to know what's going to be occurring in the next term.
  
Please add this date to your calendar and come and hear the Deputy Grand Master share plans for 2015-2016. Attire is business casual.
  

Masonic Home Day Planned

For Springfield Campus


The 2015 Masonic Home Day is scheduled for Sunday, June 7th at the Springfield Campus. There are many changes going on at the "Home" off Rt. 40 and Rt. 68 on the west side of Springfield.
  
There is a significant amount of construction  including the demolition of older structures to make way for new facilities. This will most likely affect parking.
  
The District Officers will be selling the ever popular Fried Bologna Sandwiches and bottled water. We hope to see you on the Sunday, the 7th of June. The day officially opens at 11:00 a.m. The parade will being at 3:30 p.m.
  

Ceremonies Planned for

Special Olympics


The Grand Lodge Special Olympics Committee will welcome MWB Steven E. Cokonougher and the officers of the Grand Lodge as well as the many other brethren from all parts of Ohio as they attend the Opening Ceremonies of the Special Olympics at Jesse Owens Stadium at The Ohio State University on Friday, June 26th.
  
Registration begins at 5:00 p.m. as the brethren gather for fellowship. The Ohio Grotto Association will provide dinner beforehand. The brethren will meet in the southeast corner of the stadium to parade around the track. MWB Cokonougher will present the check from the Masons of Ohio who have collected for this event through various 
fundraising efforts.
  
Finishing the parade is the Law Enforcement Torch Run. Cadets, officers on bicyclles, motorcycle units, horse patrols and cruisers escort the Law Enforcement Officers into the stadium and hand off the torch to the Special Olympians who light the cauldron. This Run has been coordinated for many years by Officer and Brother Ed Buns of Mason Police Department.
  
Attire for the evening is white shirt (golf style is appropriate), black pants, and apron. Paper aprons will be available for those who might want to purchase one. The first 500 brethren registering will receive a commemorative hat and lapel pin.
 
14th District Golf Outing Scheduled
  
The Fourth Annual District Golf Outing has been scheduled and will take place on Friday, August 28th. It will be held at Mill Creek Golf Club, 7259 Penn Rd., Ostrander 43061.
  
The cost is $80.00 per person and includes round of golf, cart and cookout following. This is a shotgun start beginning at 1:00 p.m. and is open to all golfers with teams of four, prizes (longest drive, closest to the pin, and longest drive), and cash bar. For those brethren who want to attend and support the golfers, but choose to join for lunch and not golf, the cost for lunch is $15.00 per person.
  
The deadline for registering is August 21st. Checks are payable to the 14th District Masonic Officers Association and registration and checks are to be mailed to Brian Bolyard at 3285 Grasmere Ave., Columbus 43224.

Golfers will be treated to greens fees, cart, lunch at the turn, door prizes, and a fantastic pig-roast dinner for $65.00 per person. Individual golfers are welcomed. Non-golfers are invited to enjoy dinner for $20.00 per person.

The May and June Breakfast proceeds hosted by the brethren of Grove City Lodge will go to support two undertakings.
  
The May breakfast netted $2,000 that went to help the Grove City Little League Board make the Grove City Dream Field a reality. This new field will bring a new experience for special needs children in Central Ohio.
  
The June 6th breakfast profits will go to Special Olympics. Come Hungry and support the young people. The times are listed above for this breakfast.
  

Detour Affecting York

It's that time of year again! It's springtime in the Columbus area and the orange barrels are out. Therefore, there is a NEW detour to get to the York Golf Club.
  
Starting last month, March 23rd, northbound High Street (Rt. 23) to Dimension Drive will CLOSE until August. To get to businesses on Dimension Drive or to get to York Golf Club from northbound High Street, turn right (eastbound) on to E. Campus View Blvd., then right on to Vantage Dr. to Dimension Dr., left on to High Cross Blvd., and left on to Campus View.

Mike lives in Worthington with his wife Luanne and is a Past Master of New England Lodge #4. He is the originator and facilitator for the Masons Lead Better program which began last year in Ohio.  Also, he serves as the Leadership Development Coordinator for Shriners International and is a leadership Instructor for FreeMasonUniversity.com , an online educational resource for the Grand Lodge of Ohio.

Mike is a founding partner of both the John Maxwell Team, an international group of trainers, speakers and coaches, and The Deeper Path Team, an international coaching group founded by Kary Oberbrunner who help people find and pursue their life's passions. 

When Mike was growing up he wanted to be an artist for Mad Magazine but found he was not good at art but the satire of the magazine stuck with him. Now he loves to use humor to challenge people to step off their well-worn path, use their imagination to "Think Outside the Blah," and leave a trail of inspirational leadership.

Scottish Rite Annual Meeting, Election, Installation of Officers and Activities.

Valley of Columbus AASR

  

The Annual Meeting of the Valley of Columbus was held on May 14th at 7:00  at the Aladdin Shrine Center. The annual reports were presented and the membership of the Valley of Columbus stands at just over 6,100 members.

 

Sovereign Prince and Chairman of the Board, Br. Chad Simpson Thrice Potent Master W. Greg Guy, and 3rd year At-Large Board Member, Bob Jones were recognized and thanked for their work in their respective lines and on the Board of Trustees for the Valley during this past year.

 

The Election of Officers was held. Elected to head the Enoch Lodge of Perfection for the next term is WB Jeff Garvin, PM from University Lodge, and from Franklin Council Princes of Jerusalem is WB Brian Kelley, PM of Linden Lodge. They join Most Wise Master, WB Rick Mead Columbus Chapter of Rose Croix, and Commander-in-Chief RWB Brian Bolyard, Scioto Consistory. Also, joining the Board of Trustees as At-Large Member is WB Randy Cottrill.

 

The Board of Trustees met directly afterward and RWB Brian Bolyard was elected as the new Chairman of the Board for the 2015-2016 term. RWB Gail Crago was elected as Vice Chairman.

 

The Valley is pleased to be able to again offer another benefit of being a member of Scottish Rite. ALL Ohio Scottish Rite members and their families are able to receive discounted pricing at the renowned Columbus Zoo an Zoombezi Bay. June 27th is the Chillicothe Paints Baseball game. Further information will be provided in the next issue.

  

The Valley of Columbus and the Ohio Council of Deliberation are hosting a COMBINED GOLF OUTING on June 29th, at York Golf Club 7459 N. High St., Columbus 43235. A noon shotgun start is planned for a four person best ball scramble. This is opened to non-Masons and ladies. The cost is $75.00 per Scottish Rite Member/Lady and $85.00 for non-Scottish Rite. The fee includes round of golf, cart, steak or chicken dinner and prizes. For those interested in just attending for dinner only, the cost is $25.00 per person. The limit is the first 144 golfers. Reservation deadline is June 19th. For those maybe spending the night, arrangements are through the Sheraton Suites at 201 Hutchinson Ave., Columbus. The Fall Reunion is scheduled for October 31st at the Villa Milano Banquet Center, 1630 Shrock Rd., Columbus. The degrees planned to be presented are the 4th, 18th, 22nd (video), 27th and 32nd. We hope you can join us on Halloween day!

  

Aladdin Shrine

New Facility Information

Illustrious Sir, David Wolfe,
Potentate and the officers of Aladdin Shrine officially broke ground at the new facility, 1801 Gateway Circle, Grove City on Tuesday, May 19th. Mayor Ike Stage, Mayor of Grove City and Illustrious Potentate Wolfe both commented on the building and the future of Aladdin Shrine.
  
Construction proceeds on the facility and the plan is to be in the new building by the end of October.
  
MWB Steven E. Cokonougher, Grand Master, and the officers of the Grand Lodge will dedicate the building in a Special Ceremony on Saturday, September 27th at 10:00 a.m.
 
October 3rd is the date for the Ceremonial, the LAST ONE HELD on Stelzer Rd. The Initiation fee is $194.00 which includes a Fez and dues for 2016. Check with brethren to see if they might want to join Aladdin!
  
77th Annual Shrine/Masonic Day with the Cincinnati Reds by MWB Norman Mick
The Cincinnati Reds Baseball will be holding their 77th Annual Shrine/Masonic Day with the Reds on Sunday, August 23rd 2015 The game will be held at the Great American Ballpark at 1:10 p.m. against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
  
The Reds have indicated that they want to continue this longstanding tradition. There will be pre-game ceremonies, a parade of Shrine Units, Lodges and members, youth groups and other interested groups as we deem proper to involve and can accommodate.
  
I encourage all to make this event a special project for your Lodge, group or organization.
  
Please contact your Lodge Secretary for further information as the information and flyer has been forwarded to them.
