VA Hospital Visit |
VA Hospital Visitation
NO VISITATION IN APRIL
May 3rd is West Gate #623, Luther B. Turner #732, Arts & Sciences #792, and Avery #493.
The visit is from 1:00 - 3:15 p.m. The first Lodge listed, West Gate Lodge is the organizational lodge that will contact the representatives of the other Lodges to arrange what to bring. Refreshments of six dozen of each of apples, oranges, bananas, and about 12-15 dozen cookies are appreciated for the patients.
Next Visitation - September 13th with Columbus #30, Hiram #18, Sparrow #400, and Reynoldsburg #340.
!!ATTENTION!!
A question has come up about the donation of books to the VA Hospital after a brother brought a small number of books for that reason. The VA Visitation Committee was contacted by Mrs. Jamie Russell, Voluntary Service Assistance Coordinator, who very kindly informed to please refrain from bringing or donating books. The storage space is limited and they have a good supply of books on hand.

Hold SYSK Classes by WB Ken Cohen
| The SYSK (Stuff You Should Know) classes continue; April 11th at Groveport Lodge, (this is a change from the previous April 18th date and location from South Gate-Potter), and May 9th at Luther B. Turner Lodge. For those brethren that have already been enrolled, Coffee and doughnuts will be offered at 8:00 a.m. each class with classes starting at 8:30 and finishing up by 3:00 p.m. Please bring $5.00 to cover lunch expenses as we plan to work through lunch and if you have special dietary needs, please plan to brown bag it.

District Reception Held
Honoring Grand Master
| The 14th District Masonic Officers Association hosted the Reception honoring the Grand Master, MWB Steven Cokonougher. This was held on March 14th at the Villa Milano Banquet Center.
Nearly 500 brethren, ladies and guests attended this event to welcome our own MWB Cokonougher and Lady Rebecca. Also attending were most of the Grand Lodge Officers and their ladies. WB Michael Saum, President of the 14th District Officers Association greeted all for the evening and presented the Past Presidents and other Past dignitaries of the District. With the resignation of WB David Hall as 1st Vice President, WB Saum announced that the new 1st Vice President is WB Harold Davis, PM from Whitehall Lodge #761. WB Tim Rice, 1st Vice President, Chairman of the event and Master of Ceremonies called the Widows Sons Masonic Riders to the podium for a presentation of Life membership to MWB Cokonougher and they also presented him with a leather vest. The Grotto also presented the Grand Master with his fez. Representatives of the Masonic Youth organizations were welcomed and recognized. Representing Job's Daughter's International was Stephanie Sharritts of Bethel #69 in Gahanna. Krista Scott of Columbus Assembly #172 represented the International Order of Rainbow for Girls. Daniel Hall of Linden Chapter, represented DeMolay International. Kaitlyn Fowler one of the recipients of the Grand Lodge Scholarship was introduced and shared will all, how grateful she was to have been selected to receive one of the three scholarships presented in the 14th District this past year.
WB Rice explained the tradition of the "Derby Award" (the Lodge with the most in attendance at the Reception). The Derby Award was presented to WB David Leffingwell, who accepted the Derby on behalf of the brethren of Capital City Lodge. Lady Rebecca was presented donations by the Widows Sons and the 14th District to go toward her project which is Child Abuse Prevention. MWB Cokonougher was formally introduced and presented comments for the evening which included his appreciation he has received from the 14th District through the years he has gone through the Grand Lodge line. A dance was held afterward sponsored by Whitehall Lodge and the 14th District. |
14th District Golf Outing Scheduled | The Fourth Annual District Golf Outing has been scheduled and will take place on Friday, August 28th. It will be held at Mill Creek Golf Club, 7259 Penn Rd., Ostrander 43061. The cost is $80.00 per person and includes round of golf, cart and cookout following. This is a shotgun start beginning at 1:00 p.m. and is open to all golfers with teams of four, prizes (longest drive, closest to the pin, and longest drive), and cash bar. The deadline for registering is August 21st. Checks are payable to the 14th District Masonic Officers Association and registration and checks are to be mailed to 3285 Grasmere Ave., Columbus 43224. |

New England Lodge is looking to form a cycling club and is welcoming any central Ohio brother and family member to cycle with us. An informational meeting will be held on Monday, April 13th for any bicyclist interested in learning more about this club. Come to New England Lodge in Worthington at 7:00 p.m. to learn of our plans for this new activity.

Starting March 23rd, northbound High Street (Rt. 23) to Dimension Drive will CLOSE until August. To get to businesses on Dimension Drive or to get to York Golf Club from northbound High Street, turn right (eastbound) on to E. Campus View Blvd., then right on to Vantage Dr. to Dimension Dr., left on to High Cross Blvd., and left on to Campus View.

Scottish Rite Spring 2015 Reunion
and Golf Outings for Children's Dyslexia and Ohio Council of Deliberation

There is still time remaining, but running out, to talk to brethren about joining Scottish Rite!
Saturday, April 18th, 2015, the Spring Reunion will present the 4th, 6th, 16th, 24th (video), and the 25th degrees at the John Gilbert Reese Center at OSU Newark, 1209 University Dr. Newark 43055 on that date. FREE Bus Transportation will be available from the Aladdin Shrine at 3850 Steltzer Rd. for the first 38 members who register by calling the office at 614-766-2272. Doors will open at 8:00 a.m. with coffee and doughnuts. The Reunion will start at 8:45 a.m. Everyone, EXCEPT Candidates, is required to make a prepaid $10.00 lunch reservation before April 8th. by calling the office.
Brother Sherwood Connor, is the Honoree. He is a 32nd Degree and SMA (Special Merit Award Recipient), and an active member of the Newark area.
Petitions can be obtained from from the Valley of Columbus Website, www.valleyofcolumbus.com . The cost is $100.00 which will cover the dues ($90.00) for 2015. Lodge Officers and Past Master's who are not Scottish Rite members may join for 1/2 off as long as it is indicated/marked on the petition because of a fund established by a generous donation.
Don't forget your Passport so it can be stamped. Past dues can be paid that day by cash, check or credit card! The day will conclude by 3:00 p.m.
The Fall Reunion is scheduled for October 31st, 2015 to be held at Villa Milano Restaurant, 1630 Schrock Rd., Columbus. The degrees to be presented are the 4th, 18th, 22nd (Video), 27th, and 32nd. Set your calendars to join us!
The Children's Dyslexia Center - Valley of Columbus is one of three charities that will benefit by a golf outing being held on May 18th at York Golf Club. Also receiving benefits of this outing is Scholarship Opportunities for Success and Charity Newsies!
There will be a morning shotgun start with registration at 7:00 a.m. and start at 8:00 a.m.. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. The afternoon shotgun start will be at 11:00 with registration at that time and the start will be at 1:00 p.m. Dinner is planned for 5:30 p.m. The event is a four player scramble with a fee of $99.00 per player ($49.00 tax deducible) which includes round of golf, cart, practice balls/driving range, boxed lunch, cookout dinner, 2 drink tickets, skill prizes, and awards. The Valley of Columbus and the Ohio Council of Deliberation are hosting a COMBINED GOLF OUTING on June 29th, at York Golf Club 7459 N. High St., Columbus 43235. A noon shotgun start is planned for a four person best ball scramble. This is opened to non-Masons and ladies. The cost is $75.00 per Scottish Rite Member/Lady and $85.00 for non-Scottish Rite. The fee includes round of golf, cart, steak or chicken dinner and prizes. For those interested in just attending for dinner only, the cost is $25.00 per person. The limit is the first 144 golfers. Aladdin Shrine
Circus and Masonic Night
| The latest edition of the Aladdin Shrine Circus is "in the books", having finished the 11 performances that ran March 26th-29th. The Circus Committee had contracted with a new circus, Circus United, this year which brought in different acts. The Shrine Clowns were again very well received, not just with their acts but also with many people visiting their booth to have photos taked with the Clowns. Circus Director John Morris was presented a plaque for his many years as Director by Illustrious Potentate David Wolfe. Noble Morris retired after this year's circus. The 2016 Circus is planned for March 17-20th. Monday, April 27th is Masonic Night at Aladdin Shrine, 3850 Stelzer Rd. starting at 6:30 with the Opening of Lodge by West Gate Lodge #623 (Potentate Dave Wolfe's Lodge), and the 1st and Second Section of the Master Mason Degree being presented by the Aladdin Shrine Past Master's Unit. Bring your current Dues card and apron. As is the tradition, MWB Cokonougher, Grand Master will raise the new brother. |
77th Annual Shrine/Masonic Day with the Cincinnati Reds by MWB Norman Mick | The Cincinnati Reds Baseball will be holding their 77th Annual Shrine/Masonic Day with the Reds on Sunday, August 23rd 2015 The game will be held at the Great American Ballpark at 1:10 p.m. against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Reds have indicated that they want to continue this longstanding tradition. There will be pre-game ceremonies, a parade of Shrine Units, Lodges and members, youth groups and other interested groups as we deem proper to involve and can accommodate. I encourage all to make this event a special project for your Lodge, group or organization. Please contact your Lodge Secretary for further information as the information and flyer has been forwarded to them. |
