The District President's Message

The District directories are finally distributed. I would like to thank the 24 Lodges that had representatives who, on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, attended the Franklin County Memorial Lodge annual meeting.
Brethren, please come and join us for our District Quarterly Meeting on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 7 pm at Groveport Lodge No. 240.
On Tuesday, January 13, 2015, WB Tim Rice e-mailed the 14th District Grand Master's Reception announcement, registration form and sponsorship form to all Worshipful Masters and Secretaries. This year's Reception will be held at Villa Milano on March 14. For more information, please contact WB Tim Rice.
We would appreciate the Lodges' consideration in sponsoring Grand Lodge Officers, Past Grand Masters, District Deputies Grand Master and District Education Officers for the Grand Master's Reception. The cost is $40 per person until February 21, 2015. After February 21, the cost is $50 until February 28; no reservations will be accepted after February 28.
Additionally on March 14, University Lodge #631 celebrates its 100-year Reconsecration ceremony at Northwest Temple at 1 pm. Please come and join us in supporting the Brethren of University Lodge.

VA Hospital Visit |

VA Hospital Visitation
February 1st, 2015 is Lockbourne #232, Groveport #240, Grove City #689, South Gate - Potter #782 and Ralph R. Rickly #670.
The visit is from 1:00 - 3:15 p.m. Lockbourne Lodge is the organizational lodge that will contact the representatives of the other Lodges to arrange what to bring. Refreshments of six dozen of each of apples, oranges, bananas, and about 12-15 dozen cookies are appreciated for the patients.

Association Meeting
|  The quarterly meeting of the 14th Masonic District Officer's Association will be held on Thursday, February 26th at 7:00 p.m. at Groveport Lodge, 5905 Saltzgaber Rd., Groveport. Each Lodge in the 14th District should have a representative at the meeting. The attire is business casual. |
Franklin County Memorial Lodge
Annual Meeting and Installation
|
 Instituted in 1964 during the Grand Lodge Communication, Franklin County Memorial Lodge provides the Masonic Funeral Service for sojourning brethren (those that are not members of a lodge in the 14th District).
Worshipful Master Fred Henderson called the meeting to order on January 14th at 7:30 p.m. The Past Master's of Memorial Lodge included; WB Thomas Sibbalds, RWB P. Pat Davis, WB David Sweeley, WB Kermit Sawyer, RWB Layrd Cunningham, and MWB Charles Neff were introduced. MWB Charles Neff, and MWB Ronald Winnett, Past Grand Masters were recognized along with current Grand Lodge officers; RWB Frank Carson, Grand Chaplain, RWB Tim Wheeland, Jr. Grand Warden, and RWB P. Pat Davis, Grand Tyler. MWB Steven Cokonougher, Grand Master of Masons was presented and gave comments. The Annual Meeting of 2014 Minutes were presented and approved. The bills for the 2015 meeting were presented and approved for payment. The Secretary reported the two funerals conducted this past year which brings the total to 694 since the inception of Memorial Lodge. WB Tom Sibbalds was then escorted to the altar and presented a very nice clock inscribe with a tribute to his service and dedication over the past 8 years. He felt it was the appropriate time to retire. He was given a bouquet of flowers to present to Laura for all her "behind the scenes" help. MWB Cokonougher called the officers of 2015 to the altar for installation into their new positions. The officers for 2015 are; WB David Percival - Master, WB Don Lynne - Sr. Warden, WB Greg Adams - Jr. Warden, WB David Sweeley - Treasurer, RWB Jeff Rannebarger - Secretary, WB Thomas Shell - Sr. Deacon, WB Roscoe Smith - Jr. Warden, WB Lloyd Smith - Chaplain, Br. Greg Adams Jr - Sr. Steward, and WB Freeman (Trip) Eagleson - Jr. Steward. The Annual Meeting of Memorial Lodge will be held on Wednesday, January 13th, 2016. At the conclusion of the meeting, the 14th District Officers presented the 2015 District Directories. |
District Education Officers
Hold Wardens and Deacons Seminar
|
More than 80 brethren met at West Gate Lodge on Broad Street on January 3rd, for the Wardens and Deacons class. This seminar was conducted by the 14th District Education Officers; WB Ken Cohen, RWB Neil Elam, WB Aaron Wycoff, and WB Mark Gilmore. Some of the topics included introduction protocol, event and term planning, budget planning, and installation protocol. There were several questions as some of the attendees were not aware of changes that are involved this year. The evaluations were over 95% favorable as to this class. WB Cohen thanked the members of West Gate Lodge for hosting this event and providing lunch which was consisted of hotdogs and a variety of different styles of chili prepared by members of West Gate Lodge. The meal was very well received and enjoyed! The next educational opportunities planned by the DEOs are the SYSK (Stuff You Should Know) classes planned for; February 28th at Blendon Lodge, March 21st at R. R. Rickly Lodge, April 18th at South Gate-Potter Lodge and May 9th at Luther B. Turner Lodge. Contact your Master for further information and interest in participation as all classes are mandatory attendance. |
Grand Lodge Scholarship
Applications Available
|  The Grand Lodge of Ohio offers two scholarships for each of the 25 Districts. Applications for these scholarships are due to the District Chairman postmarked not later than March 1st. Emailed applications will not be accepted as they have to be printed off to forward to the Grand Lodge. The amount is $1200.00 per scholarship. Ohio high school seniors are eligible for the scholarships. Completed scholarship applications should be sent to the District Chairman assigned to the District (county) in which the applicant resides. The District Chairman for the 14th District for 2015 is Jeff Rannebarger and his contact information can be found in the District Directory. |
District Reception to
Honor Grand Master
|  The 14th District Masonic Officers Association announces the Reception honoring the Grand Master, MWB Steven Cokonougher, will be held at the Villa Milano Restaurant, 1630 Schrock Rd., Columbus. The date is Saturday, March 14th. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The dinner is $40.00 per person and ALL RESERVATIONS are to go through your Lodge Secretary. The deadline for this price is Friday, February 13th. After February 13th, the price will be $50.00 per person. The final deadline is Friday, March 6th. |
Polar Plunge for Special
Olympics Scheduled by WB Tom Shell
|  It's NOT TOO LATE TO SPONSOR! The 13th annual Columbus Polar Bear Plunge is a fundraiser for Special Olympics. The event will be held on Saturday, February 21st and will be held at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Powell. A group representing the Masons from the Fabulous 14th District will be jumping. Any Mason of any Degree is permitted to participate. In order to jump, a minimum of $75.00 must be raised by the day of the event. Guests will be charged $10.00 for the Zoo entry fee which includes the Post Plunge Party. There will be a tailgate party (hot chocolate and coffee). For those who also want to stay warm and dry and still support, but not take the plunge, you can sign up for $30.00 you can don the "Too Chicken to Jump" t-shirt. Check out the website for Special Olympics - After the jump, a chili warm up party will be held at Rickly Lodge with a chili contest. The cost is $5.00 and all proceeds will go to Special Olympics. The Lodge that raises the most will take control of the Polar Bear Trophy for the year. If each Lodge in the 14th District were to raise $1,000.00 each, a Team award would be presented and another opportunity to get Freemasonry in he forefront of the community in Central Ohio. |  Save the Date! Luther B. Turner #732 Pancake Breakfast - February 7th. Luther B. Turner Lodge is holding their annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, February 7th, 2015 from 7 a.m. - 11 a.m. This is "ALL YOU CAN EAT' pancakes which includes sausage, juice, and coffee. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. Advance ticket may be purchased from any of the officers. -------------------------------------------------------- The members of Luther B. Turner Loge will be hosting an Open House on March 7th - Open House at Luther B Turner #732 from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.

York Lodge Hosts
Educational Sessions by JD David Gizzo
|  York Lodge #563 will be resuming our fourth Monday educational sessions. The February session will be on February 23rd, 2015 where we will begin a series of lectures from York Past Master WB Jose Diaz on the History of Freemasonry. The February session will be held at The Crafty Pint at 2234 West Dublin-Granville Rd., Columbus 43085. This event is open to all Masons in the Fourteenth District. Further information about upcoming events can be found at www.York563.org . Dinner is at 6:00 PM, brethren are responsible for their own meal and drink tab, program starts immediately after dinner. Dr. Jose O. Diaz is an associate professor, curator/librarian, and adjunct professor of history and Latin American Studies at The Ohio State University. He's a specialist in early American history. His research interests focus on the history of the American Civil War, Masonic rare books and the material culture of American and Latin American Freemasonry, and public history. In addition to teaching American and public history he's taught courses on the history of Freemasonry. He served as Master of York Lodge #563 F& A M, Worthington Ohio in 2006and is a dual member of Arts and Sciences Lodge #792 F& A M, Hilliard, Ohio. A thirty-second degree Scottish Rite Mason he's a member of the Valley of Columbus, the York Rite, and a 2010 Fellow of The Masonic Society. |

Reunion Planned

Saturday, April 18th, 2015, the Spring Reunion will present the 4th, 6th, 16th 24th (video), and the 25th degrees at the John Gilbert Reese Center at OSU Newark, 1209 University Dr. Newark 43055 on that date. FREE Bus Transportation will be available from the Aladdin Shrine at 3850 Steltzer Rd. for the first 38 members who register by calling the office at 614-766-2272. Doors will open at 8:00 a.m. with coffee and doughnuts. The Reunion will start at 8:45 a.m. Everyone, EXCEPT Candidates, is required to make a prepaid $10.00 lunch reservation before April 8th. by calling the office.
Brother Sherwood Connor, is the Honoree. He is a 32nd Degree and SMA (Special Merit Award Recipient), and an active member of the Newark area.
Petitions can be obtained from from the Valley of Columbus Website, www.valleyofcolumbus.com . The cost is $100.00 which will cover the dues ($90.00) for 2015. Lodge Officers and Past Master's who are not Scottish Rite members may join for 1/2 off as long as it is indicated/marked on the petition because of a fund established by a generous donation.
Don't forget your Passport so it can be stamped. Past dues can be paid that day by cash, check or credit card! The day will conclude by 3:00 p.m.
The Fall Reunion is scheduled for October 31st, 2015 to be held at Villa Milano Restaurant, 1630 Schrock Rd., Columbus. Set your calendars to join us!

Aladdin Shrine Annual Meeting and Installation of Officers Held |  The Annual Meeting of Aladdin Shrine was held on Saturday, January 10th, following the Unit/Club Leadership Seminar. The 2015 Officers were installed. Potentate and Officers for this year are; Illustrious Potentate David Wolfe, Chief Rabban Ron Leonard, Assistant Rabban Jon Kinney, High Priest and Prophet Todd Jones, Oriental Guide Rodney Holdren, Treasurer Denny Fehy, and Recorder Don Goodman. Appointed Officers are 1st Ceremonial Master Zale Maxwell, 2nd Ceremonial Master Arthur Wilson, and Chaplain William Stump. Past Potentate, Illustrious Sir, Garol Rogers was presented his Past Potentate Fez, and Jewel. His comments reflected a very active year with the selling of the building that has been home for nearly 35 years on Steltzer Rd. He also mentioned the fire in the Wolfe Building in April where several unit floats were stored, the search and subsequent purchase of the new facility in Grove City (the former Grand Oaks Conference Center) off Stringtown Road and I-71 area. Illustrious Potentate, David Wolfe presented comments and recognized his mother, Agnes who passed before seeing her son installed, by placing a rose at her place at the table. Mayor Ike Stage of Grove City was introduced and presented a Proclamation, Flag of the City of Grove City and a "Key to the City" to Illustrious Sir Wolfe. This is in recognition of Aladdin Shrine moving to Grove City. One of the first items of his term is the planning of the Circus which runs from Thursday, March 26th through Sunday, March 29th. Mike Singletary (East) and Jim Zorn (West) were the Coaches of the 90th East West Shrine Game held on Saturday, January 17th. The East won the game 19-3 on four field goals and a touchdown near the end of the fourth quarter from Dominique Brown of the Louisville Cardinals. |
