Happy New Year

    Happy New Year!

From The District President

I would like to congratulate the Worshipful Masters for completing the Past Masters Convocation. I was pleased to see the brethren of our District attending our Annual Meeting. Brethren, this is your Association. Let's work together to make it better.

At the Annual Meeting, I proposed we start an advertising fund to promote membership in our Lodges. Each Lodge may contribute up to $200, and the Grand Lodge and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite will match dollar for dollar. If every one of our 26 Lodges contributes $200 each, together with matching funds, we will have $15,600.00 to work with. The money must be spent on advertising to promote Masonry. I suggest that our Worshipful Masters form a committee to determine a good way to use this money to benefit our District and promote membership. If you have questions or comments , please contact me. My Information is in the District Directory.

On Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 7:30 p.m., the District Officers will be distributing the 2015 District Directories at the Franklin County Memorial Lodge meeting. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend.

Fraternally,
Michael J. Saum, President
14th District Masonic Officers Association

Grand Master and Grand Lodge Officers to Visit Brethren in Florida

Winter has arrived in Ohio and many of our members have traveled south like the migrating birds to warmer weather. Lodge attendance tends to shrink during this time, but we wish our Masonic Brethren and families safe travels and best wishes during their travels.

As listed on the back of the Grand Lodge publication, The Beacon, The Grand Master, MWB Cokonougher along with other Grand Lodge Officers are planning on making visitations during January. They are not just going to enjoy the warmth of the Sunshine State, but also the warmth of the Brotherhood as they present Service Pins and certificates to those that may be wintering in Florida.

The visitations will take place at the following locations;

Sarasota / Bradenton - January 19th at noon

Fort Myers -  January 20th at noon

Tavares Lake - January 21st at noon

West Palm Beach - January 22nd at noon

If you have Lodge members that you know reside in one of these areas or are just there for the Winter, and they are due for Service Awards, please notify them so they can receive their awards at a nice luncheon and visit with the Grand Master. For further information, contact Maria Schutte at the Ohio Masonic Home, she's handling the reservations.

DeMolay Sq Comp Color

Worshipful Master David Keiser of York Lodge #563 held one of his first meetings of the year in a different way. He invited the members of Linden Chapter to portray the DeMolay Degree before the Lodge on December 1st. The Lodge was called to order and RWB Glenn Stoots was introduced on behalf of RWB Ward Weber II who received MWB Steve Cokonougher, Grand Master of Masons. The Lodge was then called to refreshment and the young men of Linden Chapter DeMolay opened their Chapter.

With help from the members of Moundbuilders Chapter in Newark, Groveport Chapter and brethren from Ralph H. McMillan Chapter in Xenia, the members of Linden Chapter presented the DeMolay Degree  to four new members. Masons representing over 15 Lodges were in attendance for the evening to witness this degree. Master Councilor Nick Hall thanked all for the help as this was their Inspection Degree and 4th DeMolay Governor, Dad Ken Scott commented to all how well the degree was portrayed. Br. Greg Fyffe, Deputy State Master Councilor welcomed the new members. MWB Cokonougher then expressed his comments on the new members becoming involved to get the most out of DeMolay. He also asked all in attendance to reflect on the question, "Are you being a DeMolay or a Mason when no one is watching?"

The young men of Linden Chapter express their thanks to York Lodge for the opportunity to be a part of their evening.

Breakfast at Reynoldsburg

Brings Special Visitor

Over 130 people attended breakfast at Reynoldsburg Lodge on December 20th from 8 - 11 a.m. This replaced the December breakfast that would have been on the 27th.

Those attending had the regular eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, biscuits, sausage gravy, hash browns, beverages, and fruit. The dinning room was filled with laughter, talking and was decorated for the season.

If you traveled into the Lodge room, you saw a very nicely decorated tree and yes, Santa was there to visit with so many children. Each one, after visiting with Santa, left with a gift. He was able to take time out of his busy schedule as he was preparing for a few days later when he was heading out on his annual trek around the world. A very special THANK YOU to Santa for this continued visitation. It meant so much. Many were able to get a photo to commemorate the day.

Thank you to the members of Reynoldsburg Lodge, and the elves who assisted whether cooking and preparing before the day started, or bringing the food to the tables, to clearing and cleaning afterwards. This event has been a yearly event for a long time and this year certainly was so well received!
