MWB Cokonougher Installed as Grand Master |

The Grand Lodge of Ohio met for the 205th Annual Communication on October 17-18 at the Sharonville Convention Center north of Cincinnati. As the Grand Lodge Officers took their respective stations, MWB Norman Mick, gaveled the business session to order. The various representatives of the other Grand Bodies of Ohio and other Grand Lodges were introduced and welcomed. The necessary reports were presented and items of legislation were voted on and the election of the Grand Lodge Officers was conducted during the Friday session.
One item of legislation enacted by a vote of the brethren attending is that games of chance, raffles, and the such will now be permitted. The section on gambling was removed from the Grand Lodge Code by the vote. It will now be governed by the laws in the Ohio Revised Code.
RWB Brian Bolyard and RWB Tim Wheeland were introduced on Saturday morning along with the other retiring District Deputies. WB N. Crowell Shane retired as District Education Officer. We thank them for their service and dedication to the Grand Lodge of Ohio and the 14th District.
After the awards (Grand Master's Award, Education Award, and Special Olympics) were presented by MWB Mick, MWB Ronald L. Winnett, PGM 2008 installed MWB Steven E. Cokonougher as Grand Master for the 2014-2015 term. Assisting MWB Cokonougher this next year installed from the 14th District are RWB Frank Carson as Grand Chaplain, RWB Tim Wheeland as Jr. Grand Deacon, and RWB P. Pat Davis as Grand Tyler.
MWB Cokonougher announced his theme this year is "Now is the Time!" His pin reflects that as it is an exclamation point with the Square and Compasses Masonic Logo.
RWB Bolyard, while retiring as District Deputy will still continue to serve. MWB Cokonougher appointed him as the District Advisor of the 14th District.
One of the first actions to take place after the installation during his remarks, was that MWB Cokonougher will be issuing an edict for a period of time on the enacted legislation of gambling, games of chance or raffles until guidelines are established so that Lodges and brethren may benefit from the vote rather than possibly have issues or concerns from State Law.
Among presentations made to MWB Cokonougher was his Grand Master Fez from Illustrious Potentate Garol Rodgers of Aladdin Shrine, a very special gavel made at school by his grandson, Jacob, and his Top Hat presented by First Lady Rebecca.
As a note of interest there were 1,459 registered for Grand Lodge 2014. The membership of the Lodges in Ohio stands at 91,000.

The Grand Lodge is very pleased to announce that it now has available for $5.00 the pin pictured to the right. This pin has the Eagle Scout logo and the Masonic Logo. Please share this with Lodge members who are entitled to wear this pin.
Lodges should take orders and send the order with payment Grand Lodge to get them. You'll need to check the cost for shipping before completing the order. It is not recommended that each brother call Grand Lodge as it may overwhelm them.

Past Master's Convocation / District Annual Meeting
| The Past Master's Convocation of the 14th District is set for Saturday, December 13th at South Gate - Potter Lodge #782 at 651 Groveport Rd., Canal Winchester. The Masters of the Lodges in the 14th District should be ready for introduction by 8:15. Also, if you have not received the Master's Manual from your previous Master, please have them check for it to get it to you as you will need that for updates to this term. You will need your Certificate of Election form so your respective Deputy will be able to sign it and it needs to be returned to your Secretary for addition to the Lodge minutes.
The Annual Meeting of the 14th District will be held after lunch at 1:00 p.m. The annual reports of the District will be presented along with the election and installation of the District Officers. |
14th District Golf Outing |
Despite the wind, cold temperatures, grey clouds and bits of spitting rain for much of the day, the 14th District Third Golf Outing was held on Saturday, October 4th at the York Golf Club in north Columbus. The weather caused some havoc with the time of play as it caused much longer than all had planned. The last couple of teams completed the course just as darkness descended this fall evening. Over 40 golfers met in the clubhouse and after lunch, headed out at their respective tee times to play. This was an increase from last year which is fantastic as we grow this outing! Several holes were not the same as they had been in the past. The construction of the North High (Rt. 23) / I-270 area caused some holes to be reconfigured, so that may have added some challenges not previously experienced. The team led by Brother Bob Boyer, SW of Magnolia Lodge won the event with a composite score of 64. Other team members included Seth Morgan, and father and son combination Ken and Kyle Kellogg. We congratulate them (there is some speculation that there might have been a ringer as Kyle plays on the OSU Golf Team)! They received a round of golf each at York for their win. Second place winners were Team Stoots, Glenn Stoots, Jeff Carter, Matt Knight, and Dan Mason. Third Place went to Team Wheeland, Tim Wheeland, Ebby Brewer, Greg Brewer, and Steve Sisko.
Prizes were awarded for Longest Putt - Bob Ashcraft, Longest Drive - Chris Knight, Closest to the Pin - Glenn Stoots, and Putting Contest - Ahmet Alasyali. Several door prizes were presented to during the steak dinner held afterwards in the warm, fire lit dinning area. Plans are being made for the Fourth Outing next year. We hope you are able to join us!

Lodge Tax Exemption Status is Ongoing Process |
In talking with one of the Secretaries of the District recently, he explained that as he read the paperwork, he believed that it needs to be re-applied to keep the status. In checking with the Grand Secretary, MWB C. Michael Watson, he has confirmed that this is the correct procedure. Although many Lodges have filed the first application for Tax Exemption Status, it is indeed an ongoing process and has to be reapplied for each year. This pertains to those Lodges that own buildings or have Temple Companies, but it is necessary to continue tax exemption. WB Simpson of the Grand Secretary's Office explains that the form "DTE V" is to be mailed to them by the County Treasurer. It is a one page form confirming ownership has not changed and the amount of rental income from NON-MASONIC Renters - if the Lodge owns the property. If a Temple Company owns it, they are to put NA down for the rental income amount. This is important to about 14 of the Lodges in the 14th District, so please watch for this information and form when it comes in the mail. For information, or if there are questions, please contact WB Simpson at csimpson@freemason.com or at 614-885-5318 or at 1-800-292-6092. He is helping Secretaries with this process. |
