DeMolay Happenings | The young men of Ohio DeMolay have been active this year. This is representative on the local, state and international levels. June 19-21, the Supreme Council Session was held in the birthplace of DeMolay, Kansas City, Missouri. Brother Bob Laing, Past State Master Councilor of Van Wert Chapter conducted the International delegates of the 47thnd DeMolay Congress through a service project at a homeless shelter in Kansas City to start off the Session. He represented DeMolay throughout the world very well this past year and one of his highlights was when the Scottish Rite of the Northern Jurisdiction sponsored a trip for he and Congress Secretary Christopher Labaw of New Jersey as they along with Grand Master of DeMolay, Mike Salazar of California laid a wreath at the site where Jacques DeMolay, the last Grand Master of the Knights Templar along with Geoffrey DeCharney were burned at the stake in Paris, France 700 years ago. The young men of the 48th Congress elected James Hawkins of Georgia as International Master Councilor and Stephen Mattox of Wisconsin as Congress Secretary, both will serve as the spokesmen of the organization throughout this term. The members of Supreme Council elected WB Justin Lowe, PM of Whitehall Lodge #761 and Sr. DeMolay of Marietta Chapter as a Deputy Member and elevated RWB Jeff Rannebarger, PDDGM of the 14th District and PM of Reynoldsburg Lodge #340 and Sr. DeMolay of Hilliard Chapter to Active Member status. Brother Sam Cohen, member of Reynoldsburg Lodge #340, State Master Councilor called the Ohio State Council, DeMolay International to order at the Annual Conclave held at Kent State University July 18-20th. The Legion of Honor was conferred on three brethren of the 14th District. WB Doug Moshier, Master of Magnolia Lodge #20 and Sr. DeMolay of Columbus Chapter was received as an Active member along Br. Brian Larick of Sunrise Lodge #783, a Sr. DeMolay of Lima Chapter. RWB Glenn Stoots, DDGM of the 14th District and PM of South Gate - Potter Lodge #782 was elected as an Honorary member (he served as Chapter Dad Advisor of Groveport Chapter in the past). The Legion of Honor is the highest honor that a Sr. DeMolay or Master Mason can receive from DeMolay International. Dad Martin Woodworth, Executive Officer of Ohio DeMolay called on Dad Merlyn Meredith, Past Executive Officer attending his 75 consecutive Conclave to present to Br. Trent White of nearby Moundbuilders Chapter in Newark, the Membership Award for bringing in 6 new members to his Chapter this past term. This is the second year in a row that Br. White received this award! Dad Woodworth also shared that DeMolay in Ohio continues to grow not only in membership (over 600 young men are DeMolays in Ohio), but also grew as three new chapters were created. They include, Eaton Chapter and Vandalia Chapter in the western portion of Ohio and Dad Ken Scott, Governor of the 4th DeMolay District, in Central Ohio received Letters Temporary as Circleville Chapter starts meeting on a regular basis and initiating new young men. More communities are showing interest in supporting and sponsoring a Chapter. For further information, contact RWB Jeff Rannebarger, Director of New Chapter Development for Ohio DeMolay. Br. Sam Cohen received a standing ovation, as he installed Br. A. J. Thomas of Van Wert Chapter as the new State Master Councilor on Saturday, July 19th. Br. Greg Fyffe of Ralph H. McMillan Chapter in Xenia was installed as Deputy State Master Councilor, and Br. Steven Lofland, of Linden Chapter was installed as State Scribe. Brother Lofland also received the title of "Mr. Ritual" having scored the highest at Heartland Ritual Competition held earlier this year in Detroit, MI. His score separated him from the next individual by 1 point per Dad Dale Hall, State Ritual Director for Ohio DeMolay. Assisting Brother Thomas this coming term is Br. R. J. Lucas of Groveport Chapter who was installed as State Standard Bearer and Brother Daniel Hall, PMC of Linden Chapter installed as State 1st Preceptor. We thank Br. Cohen for his work this past year and wish him well as he proceeds to continue his education in Rochester, NY. Conclave will be held at Kent State University again next year with the dates of July 23-25, 2015. |
