District Awards Dinner and Meeting |
The 14th District Awards Dinner and quarterly meeting was held Thursday, May 22nd at Luther B. Turner Lodge. The dinner was picnic style with hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, baked beans, and cake. Thank you to the brethren of Luther B. Turner Lodge for their hosting the dinner and meeting! After a fine meal, the brethren and ladies gathered in the Lodge room for the District Quarterly meeting and presentation of awards from this inspection season. WB David Percival called the meeting to order and after the invocation and pledge of allegiance to the flag, an abbreviated business portion was conducted. WB Rice, 2nd Vice President discussed about the upcoming Masonic Home Day, on June 8th and also announced the Third Annual District Golf Outing scheduled for October 4th (See articles about both events in this edition). RWB Cokonougher, DGM spoke about the GM Rollout program on July 12th. He also spoke about various fundraising activities with reference to the Ladies Luncheon at Grand Lodge, Grand Lodge upcoming in October, and the Antique Boot Camp, and Appraisal Show (all listed further in this E-News). WB Percival along with the District Officers presented the Lodge awards for attendance at the inspections. Those Lodges receiving 80% were; Groveport #240, Reynoldsburg #340, South Gate - Potter #782, and Arts & Sciences #792. Lodges receiving 90% ribbons included; Linden #637, Grove City #689, and Luther B. Turner #732. The Lodges that had respresentation at all 26 inspections and receiving 100% ribbons are; New England #4, Magnolia #20, Lockbourne #232, Goodale #372, Avery #493, Neoacacia #595, West Gate #623, University #631, Ralph R. Rickly #670, Community #689, Triangle #748, Whitehall #761, and Sunrise #783. That's 20 of the 26 Lodges in the 14th District receiving 80% or better in attending the inspections this past term, which says a great deal especially with the very harsh winter that was experienced this year.
Seven brethren were honored for their attendance at all 26 inspections. They were presented with certificates and specially made pins to distinguish them for their efforts. Those brethren include; Br. Clyde Knisley and WB Jack Smith of New England #4, WB Phil Miller of West Gate #623, WB Bryan Thomas of Ralph R Rickly #670, WB Gary Shoemaker of Neoacacia #595, WB Frank Swiatek, Master of University #631, and Br. Neal Wengatz of Sunrise #783. Thank you to these brethren for their dedication to attend all of the inspections! The "Traveling Gavel" Award was presented to University Lodge for the Lodge attending the most inspections. WM Swiatek accepted on behalf of the brethren of University Lodge. A special presentation was then made by WB Percival. Brother John Quigley of Linden Lodge was a stalwart brother attending all 26 Lodge Inspections for at least the past 7 years having attained "Perfect Attendance" during that time. We believe that he attended more than that with the thought that he attended all inspections going back about 10 years. Brother Quigley passed to the Celestial Lodge in the fall last year and it was felt by the District Officers that a special recognition was proper to honor this Honorary Past President of the 14th District. A memorial chair cloth was made and placed at "his chair" for all the inspections this year. WB Percival made this memorial into a shadow box and presented it to WB John Stains, Master of Linden Lodge to continue to honor this fine Brother. WB Stains presented remarks about Brother Quigley and accepted the memorial.
The District Deputies then presented specific brethren and Lodges awards for their work in the Degrees -
- Entered Apprentice Degree; Best Apron Lecture - WM Steve Arnett of Whitehall #761, Best Charge - Br. David Gizzo of York #563, Best Lecture - Br. David Keiser of York #563, and Best Degree Presentation - Whitehall #761.
- Fellow Craft Degree; Best Charge - Br. Mike Sinnott of South Gate - Potter #782, Best "G" Lecture - WM Brady Dodson of Avery #493, Best Lecture - Br. Blake Oates of Avery #493, Best Degree Presentation - Avery #493.
- Master Mason Degree; Best Craft Team - Sunrise #783, Best Charge - Br. Bill Owen of Sunrise #783, Best Lecture was a tie - Br. Bob Boyer of Magnolia #20, and Br. John Hicks of Sunrise #783, and Best Master Mason Degree Presentation - Sunrise #783.
CONGRATULATIONS to these brethren and Lodges for their fine portrayals of the degrees to the candidates of the Lodges.
Brother David Hall, Sgt at Arms presented the information of attendance at the meeting which included 25 Lodges, 9 Masters of Lodges, 9 Past Presidents of the District, 73 brethren that signed in and 14 ladies. With nothing further to come before the meeting the District meeting was closed with benediction from Chaplain, WB Aaron Wycoff. The next quarterly District Meeting will be held at Reynoldsburg Lodge on Thursday, September 25th.
