Franklin County Memorial Lodge Annual Meeting and Installation of Officers
Masonic Funeral Emblem
The Officers of Franklin County Memorial Lodge met on January 8th for the annual meeting. WM Mike Mahaffey called the meeting to order after dinner that was held earlier with almost 90 members and their ladies attending.

WB Tom Sibbalds announced that in 2013 seven funerals were conducted and in the 50 years since the inception of Franklin County Memorial Lodge that 962 Masonic Funeral Services have been performed.
The 2014 officers selected by MWB Mick, Grand Master of Masons, were installed by RWB Steven Cokonougher, Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Ohio. The officers are; Bro. Fred Henderson as Worshipful Master, WB David Percival - Sr. Warden, WB Donald Lynne - Jr. Warden, WB Louis VanSlyck - Treasurer, WB Thomas Sibbalds - Secretary,  WB Greg Adams - Sr. Deacon, WB Lloyd Smith - Chaplain,  WB David Sweeley - Tyler, WB Tom Shell - Sr. Steward, WB Roscoe Smith - Jr. Steward.

The Franklin County Memorial Lodge was instituted October 17th, 1964 by the Grand Lodge of Ohio by Resolution for the purpose of conducting funeral services for sojourning Masons. It does no degree work and the officers are appointed annually by the Grand Master of Masons in Ohio.

The next meeting of Memorial Lodge is Wednesday, January 7th, 2015.

14th District Blue Pages EXTENDS Ad Deadline
Faith Hope Charity
The 14th District Masonic Blue Pages is in need of advertisers!

The Executive Committee of the 14th Masonic District Officers Association has voted with the approval of the District Advisor, to extend the deadline for ads for the 2014 Blue Pages. The date is extended until May 15th. The Blue Pages will be printed over the summer and the intention is to have the Blue Pages distributed by the District Picnic in August and the quarterly District meeting on September 25th. The reason is that there are very few ads (less than 20) were received as the January 31st deadline neared.

This is a very good way to share a business, service, or another fraternal organization. It's been stated recently that many brethren feel more comfortable dealing with a brother of the Fraternity. Thre have been times when looking for a specific project or business where referring to a resouce like this can help rather than just looking online or checking in the phone book.

NOTICE - The INSIDE COVERS, BOTH FRONT AND BACK HAVE BEEN SOLD ALONG WITH THE BACK COVER. Ads can be sold for the remaining pages.

Please contact RWB Jeff Rannebarger, Chairman of the Blue Pages Committee at jrannebarger@earthlink.net about submitting an ad for the Blue Pages or also your current Jr. Warden who is the Lodge representative.

The deadline for submitting ads is now May 15th.

Grand Lodge Scholarship
Lamp Square Compasses

One important item Freemasonry promotes as a fraternity is that we are striving for education which is one component to help Brothers to become better men. Also on that theory, the Grand Lodge has established the Scholarship Foundation to help young people attain a college education.

For the past few years the 14th District has presented two scholarships from applications submitted to the Grand Lodge Scholarship Committee from among high school seniors residing in the 14th District (Franklin and Delaware Counties). This year, the 14th District is very pleased to announce that THREE Scholarships are being granted. Those applying are contacted directly by the Grand Lodge Scholarship Committee and amount awarded is $1,200.00.

The most important part of this process is submitting the application which is not difficult to complete, but if it isn't done, then the chance of receiving the Scholarship is impossible! It's that simple! The link to the application and information about the Scholarship is http://freemason.com/scholarship-foundation . The application needs to be submitted to RWB Jeff Rannebarger, the 14th District Grand Lodge Scholarship contact by March 1st. If there are questions, please contact him at jrannebarger@earthlink.net .

Grand Master Class Scheduled
Grand Lodg Seal
MWB Norman Mick, Grand Master of Masons has announced that a Grand Master's Class will be held on April 5th, 2014. The location is Northland Masonic Temple, 5885 Cleveland Ave, Columbus. This Class will be a District Wide One Day Class rather than a regional class. The edicts pertaining to the GM Class have been announced and Edict #1 explains that a petitioner may be 18 years of age when the petition is received as long as the candidate is 19 years old on April 5th. The 2nd Edict permits Lodges to hold special meetings for the purpose of balloting on candidates (primarily for Lodges that meet once a month).

MWB Mick has also stated this class is to have one Mentor per candidate. The petition deadline to Grand Lodge is March 15th. This gives brethren, three months from now to get petitions in, potential candidates to be investigated and voted on as there will be NO extension for petitions to be turned in per the Grand Secretary. The fees for the degrees need to be paid to the respective Lodge when the petition is received. The Lodge will also be absorbing the cost of the candidates lunch on the 5th as NO candidate should pay for his lunch that day.

As a reference to help Lodges prepare for this GM Class, the Grand Lodge Membership Committee has issued a GM Class Manual which can be found at www.freemason.com/images/forms/gm-class-handbook.pdf . This information will aid in not only preparing the potential member as to what he will be gaining by his membership but also will help the Master Craftsman (mentor) in making sure his experience is worth returning back to his Lodge!

In addition to the GM Class, MWB Mick has chosen to have, if the candidate is interested in continuing as a York Rite Mason that the Royal Arch Mason Mark Master Degree be presented at the conclusion of the Master Mason Degree. Petitions for Chapter of Royal Arch Masons need to be processed by the individual RAM Chapters.

Mentor and candidate lunch costs are to be forwarded to the 14th District Secretary, RWB Brian Bolyard and the deadline for lunch reservations and costs is March 22nd. More information as to cost for lunch, location of the GM Class and other particulars will be presented as is learned.

Don't wait until the last moment to contact potential members! Start now talking to those men that you feel would benefit membership in Freemasonry. When talking with potential members, be sure to explain that the benefits of membership as well as one main responsibility in that they will be paying dues to maintain their membership unless they should select to become and endowed member. Contact should be made to brethren who have been waiting to complete their degrees.

Rickly Lodge Raises 1st MM in 2014
Square and Compasses
The Brethren of Ralph R. Rickly Lodge #670 brought back a past tradition by raising the first Master Mason of 2014 on January 1st. WM Tom Shell opened the special meeting at 6:00 a.m. with about 20 members of Rickly and another 20 brethren visiting from other Lodges. After introductions were completed, the brethren proceeded with the MM Degree. The officers of Rickly conducted the 1st Section and with assistance of some of the visiting brethren the 2nd Section was presented to a very impressed candidate.

After presenting the degree and welcoming the newest brother in Ohio, the Lodge was closed and all retired to the dining room for a full buffet breakfast. A freewill offering for breakfast was taken with the monies being donated to Special Olympics. In talking with some of the members of Rickly, one brother stated that he received his "summons" to attend and looked so forward to this way to start off the year. Another brother recalled that several years ago when this was popular, that the parking reached back to the back of the property with 12 members staffing the kitchen and just about 400 brethren celebrating the New Year.

2014 started off well at Rickly Lodge and we hope this tradition continues into the future.
