State Budget Passes / Fraternal Relief Bill Signed
Square and Compasses
The General Assembly of the Ohio State Legislature has passed the current state budget and it has been signed in to law by the Governor. This included a bill that brings much needed financial relief to the Lodges in Ohio.

This new law has removed the property tax of the Lodges in Ohio along with several other organizations. This in turn will return monies of our brethren paying their dues back to the Lodges and help with their budgets.

This is not, however an automatic process. Paperwork in the form of filing an application and paying the years taxes will have to be completed before your Lodge can benefit.

HOWEVER - The Grand Secretary, MWB Watson has asked to please delay the filing of any paperwork until the Lodges have been contacted by the Grand Secretary's Office. There is communication from the Grand Secretary's Office to each of the 88 County Auditor's Offices as to how each County Auditor's Office wants to process these applications, so PLEASE REFRAIN APPLYING UNTIL THE GRAND SECRETARY NOTIFIES THE LODGES!

Annie Strawn Installed as Grand Worthy Advisor of Rainbow for Girls for Ohio

Rainbow
The young ladies of Rainbow for Girls have voted and elected Miss Annie Strawn as Grand Worthy Advisor of Rainbow for Girls of Ohio. Grand Assembly was held at Kenyon College in Gambier, OH and the Installation of the young Ladies was held in the Kenyon Athletic Center on Saturday, July 13th. Miss Strawn's theme this year is "All the World's a Stage". Her Service Project is appropriate to one of the Cardinal Teachings of Rainbow, Patriotism as she and the young Ladies will be collecting both financially as well as receiving donations for Blue Star Mothers.

Blue Star Mothers  concentrate on providing emotional support to its members, doing volunteer work with veterans in general and veterans' hospitals in particular, and generally fostering a sense of patriotism and respect for members of the Armed Forces. In addition, local chapters carry out individual projects of their own choosing. Blue Star Mothers do much more than volunteer in VA hospitals and outreach centers. They work in physical and emotional rehabilitation, help with medical supplies, transportation, food, clothing and friendship, gratitude and love.

She is the daughter of very proud parents Kathy and Tim Strawn. She is a member of Columbus Assembly #172 in District 6. Annie recently graduated from New Albany High School and will be attending The Ohio State University - Newark Campus.
We offer her our support and sincerest CONGRATULATIONS!

Assisting him as he travels Ohio will be A. J. Thomas of Van Wert Chapter who was elected and installed as Deputy State Master Councilor.

DeMolay Honors Local Masons
DeMolay Logo
DeMolay International has conferred the Legion of Honor among the following brethren of the 14th District and the surrounding area while at the recently completed Annual Conclave held in Berea. The Legion of Honor is the highest honor that DeMolay can bestow on a Mason or Sr. DeMolay. There is a distinction that those who are honored with red cords are Active members and are Sr. DeMolays (having been a DeMolay) and the white cords designate those who are Honorary members of the Legionaires.

We congratulate the following brethren - Allen R. Kiger, Moundbuilders Chapter in Newark and Past State Master Councilor, Michael A. Moshier, Columbus Chapter and Master of Magnolia Lodge #20, Ryan Weatley, Linden Chapter, currently a Technical Sergeant in the United States Air Force stationed at Madill Air Force Base in Florida with combat experience in Afganistan, and Troy Willeke of Union County Chapter, Past State Officer.

Receiving the Honorary Legion of Honor is F. Lon Lowry, Past District Deputy Grand Master of the 14th District and Past Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star of Ohio.

We also congratulate WB Kenneth Scott of New England Lodge #4 and Past Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of the Order of Easter Star of Ohio who was honored with the Degree of Chevalier, the 2nd highest Honor that can bestowed. We also hope he is recovering well after he fractured his femur and underwent hip replacement surgery!

York Golf Club Membership

by RWB Ebby Brewer

Many golfers know that York Golf Club is owned by three Masonic Lodges in the 14th District, York #563, University #631 and Capital City #656. They also know it is one of Central Ohio's golfing jewels.

Designed by George Sargent, it opened in 1927 and while it has had many changes over the years it still retains that old course charm placing a premium on shot accuracy and course management.

And you may know that its first golf pro was Denny Shute, winner of the 1933 British Open and first back to back winner of the PGA in 1936 and 1937. A feat not equaled until 1999 and 2000 by some guy named Tiger.

But did you know that several years ago York Golf Club created a membership category allowing golfers who belong to Lodges of the 14th District to join? At a price lower than that for non- Masonic golfers and their families, it is without doubt the best deal in Central Ohio.

Check the website at www.yorkgolfclubonline.com for more information about York Golf Club. If you are already interested in joining York Golf Club call either Chuck Dahn, Club Manager at 614-885-5968 or Glenn Johnson, Head Pro at 614-885-5459 for details. Or ask about hosting your party or reception at York overlooking the course.

District Directory / Website / Newsletter Advertising

Faith Hope Charity
As many Lodges prepare to return to Labor after the summer break, it is also time to start getting advertisers for the 14th Masonic District Directory, Website, and Newsletter.

This is a very good way to share a business, service, or other fraternal organization and also helps to keep the Directory available for free distribution to the Lodges of the 14th District.

Please see a District Officer for information about placing an ad.
