Grand Master's One Day Class Held |
The Grand Master's One Day Class was held on Saturday, May 11th at the Aladdin Shrine Center.
There were over 320 candidates, another 320 mentors and over 80 visitors representing 65 Lodges from 13 of the 26 Masonic Districts in Ohio in attendance to help those new brethren join Ohio Freemasonry.
We were so appreciative to have the support of DeMolays helping that day. Brother Tyler Frisby, State Scribe of of Ohio DeMolay and member of Xenia Lodge #49 in the 8th District (pictured at the far right), was the exemplar for the EA Degree.
Representing the 14th Masonic District were Brother Marc Chong, State Master Councilor, member of Captital City Lodge #656, (center) as the exemplar for the FC Degree and Brother Sam Cohen, Deputy State Master Councilor of Reynoldsburg Lodge #340 (left) was the exemplar for the MM Degree. Thanks to these brethren for the assistance, it made the day special to have them there!
We were pleased that about 1/2 of the candidates were from the 14th Masonic Districts and we sincerely WELCOME these new Brothers to their respective Lodges. We hope you enjoyed the day and that you'll become active in your Lodge.
One important aspect that we can continue to do for them is to encourage these new members to attend and help them to be a part of their new experience in Lodge. Keep them interested such as invite them to activities over the summer, like picnics, and also encourage them to come back after the summer break (if your lodge takes one). Maybe hold a "Rusty Nail" type degree or something similar to help explain what they went through in May so they are more comfortable. Another idea is to hold a "family" cookout as soon after to introduce their families and wives, girlfriends, or significant others to the membership. This can certainly help when it's time to start collecting dues if they don't feel that the only time we see them or contact them is for their years "dues".
Don't let the only time they are in the Lodge Room be from Saturday, May 11th!

Ohio Job's Daughters Fundraiser
by Linda Davies |
The 2013-2014 Ohio Messenger Team needs your help!
Every year girls from Job's Daughters in Ohio try out for a position on the Ohio Messenger Team we take to Supreme Session in July. This year our Supreme Session is in Oakland, California. The Team (7 girls) is in the process of raising money for their trip to Supreme Session in July 2013. This is to help with their airfare. Normally we can drive to Supreme Session, however, this is a LONG drive and we would like to fly the Team out if possible. So this is one of the fundraiser's they are working on. We are asking each bethel to try to collect as many cans (please rinse them out and flatten them) as they can to help the Team. Please put the word out to your Lodges, Eastern Star and anyone you may know.
Once you have collected the cans, contact Linda Davies at 614-551-2792 or email her ldavies9006@aol.com and she will arrange to have them picked up.

York Golf Club Membership
by RWB Ebby Brewer |
Many golfers know that York Golf Club is owned by three Masonic Lodges in the 14th District, York #563, University #631 and Capital City #656. They also know it is one of Central Ohio's golfing jewels.
Designed by George Sargent, it opened in 1927 and while it has had many changes over the years it still retains that old course charm placing a premium on shot accuracy and course management.
And you may know that its first golf pro was Denny Shute, winner of the 1933 British Open and first back to back winner of the PGA in 1936 and 1937. A feat not equaled until 1999 and 2000 by some guy named Tiger.
But did you know that several years ago York Golf Club created a membership category allowing golfers who belong to Lodges of the 14th District to join? At a price lower than that for non- Masonic golfers and their families, it is without doubt the best deal in Central Ohio.
Check the website at www.yorkgolfclubonline.com for more information about York Golf Club. If you are already interested in joining York Golf Club call either Chuck Dahn, Club Manager at 614-885-5968 or Glenn Johnson, Head Pro at 614-885-5459 for details. Or ask about hosting your party or reception at York overlooking the course.
