Mark Your Calendar and Book Your Hotel for the 2016 Public Policy Forum
Share your Message at the State Capitol
Join CASA and your clean water colleagues on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 for a unique opportunity to speak directly with legislators about issues affecting your district.

Our relatively new Public Policy Forum is seeing some format changes for 2016 as we work to fine-tune this program.

This year, we're very pleased to partner with WateReuse. Additional changes include:
  • Program is one full day instead of two days
  • Will be held at the Sutter Club, 1220 9th Street, Sacramento
  • Enhancements to ensure you're well-prepared to meet with your legislator
Program details and registration are coming soon - keep an eye out to casaweb.org and CASA Connects for more information.

IMPORTANT! Because this event is not being held at a hotel and is one day instead of two, we have not reserved a block of rooms. If you choose to stay overnight, you can stay at the hotel of your choice. We strongly encourage you to book your room now - hotels in this area fill up very quickly and rates go up fast. Here is a list of nearby hotels for your convenience. If you plan to stay, please reserve your room now!

End of a Long Road in POTW Permit Battle
In September we announced a huge CASA victory following six years of advocating on the issue of permit requirements for POTWs receiving hauled-in organic waste.

The regulations went to the Office of Administrative Law (OAL) for a six week review period.

We're very pleased to report that the OAL has approved the regulations and filed them with the Secretary of State on November 10, 2015. As a result of CASA's advocacy in close cooperation with our members, the regulations become operative on January 1, 2016.
Mixed Bag
CASA jointly authored a letter to the State Water Board requesting extension and funding increase for the 1% interest loan program for water recycling projects.

Greg Kester
CASA's Director of Renewable Resources, Greg Kester, received the high honor of being invited to attend a special meeting last week in Washington, D.C. on the topic of bio-contaminants which may enter wastewater facilities. CASA has been involved in Ebola issues since the first patients were diagnosed in the U.S. in 2014. While Ebola was the a focus of the meeting, the discussion also included anthrax and other biological agents.

CDFA is accepting applications for the State Water Efficiency and Enhancement Program (SWEEP).  An estimated $16 million will be available to provide financial assistance to implement irrigation systems that reduce GHGs and saves water at California agricultural operations.

The USDA ARS is offering a two-day workshop"Proven Solutions to Drought Stress" in Modesto Jan. 12-13, 2016.  This will include information on using recycled water, irrigation timing and more.
