Despite Strong Efforts, 4th For North America at World Cadets (Courtesy of Matt Hetherington/USATT) They gave their best efforts but it was just shy of a medal finish for both the Cadet Boys and Cadet Girls teams representing North America at the World Cadet Challenge.
In the semifinal it was a tight 5 match loss for the boys team against the host team of China. Victor Liu was the star performer of the match, winning both of his 2 encounters 3-1 and 3-2 to give the team a fighting chance in the match. Unfortunately Europe proved too strong in the bronze medal playoff taking the first 3 matches in a row to win 3-0.
The girls semifinal, also against the host nation saw Crystal Wang lead out with a strong 3-0 victory to give North America the first point. The second match proved crucial, going all the way to five sets, an immense effort but Amy Wang wasn't able to close out the last game. What Makes a Top Table Tennis Player
(Courtesy of Eli Baraty) Everyone has a different definition of what a 'top player' is. You may view it as no.1 in your local club, or as one of these in your country,or even possibly as top 10 on the world rankings list. No matter what your view is, you can become a top player yourself (depending on many factors of course).
When I first started playing TT, in my eyes - the local league players were the best ones! Today many people see me as a top player (locally, nationally and occasionally internationally). I personally don't consider myself as one because as a teen I dreamed of becoming "A World Champion", and I was not able achieve this dream for a variety of reasons. However, I personally consider a top player to be someone who is ranked inside the worlds top 100 or of that caliber.
There is a huge difference between having goals and having a vision. When you have goals, you're aiming to get somewhere but when it gets tough or you have...Read More

Lebesson Becomes First French European Champ since 1976
(Courtesy of ITTF) Emmanuel LEBESSON has become the first Frenchman to become the men's singles European Champion since 1976, after clinching the title at the Liebherr 2016 ITTF-European Championships in Budapest, Hungary on Sunday 23 October 2016.
The number 14th seed was a rank outsider heading into the event, with no one expecting the 28-year-old to have a chance at the prestigious title. In another piece of history, LEBESSON played his teammate Simon GAUZY, which was the first time ever there was an all French final in Europe's most elite tournament.
It was the older LEBESSON who was too good for GAUZY, in what was surprisingly their first ever match against each other, and prevailed 14-12, 9-11, 11-7, 11-3, 11-6 to arrest the title. After his victory, LEBESSON stated: "I did not start the match very well and that is the last thing I wanted to happen, if you gave Simon the chance to lead, he will just increase the pressure. At the end of the opening game, I managed to.... Read More

History of USATT - Volume XVIII - Chapter 5 (Courtesy of Tim Boggan) 1990 Summer Activities Abroad
The 1990 ITTF Council Meeting was held 7-10 July in Casablanca, Morocco. Important propositions were voted on including the following:
A) Playing clothing may be white if a yellow ball is used.
B) All colors will be allowed though white may not be on basic part (it may be on sleeves and trimmings) when white ball is used. The same applies to yellow when a yellow ball is used. If the shade of the yellows differ significantly, a garment and the ball can both be yellow. To preclude poor taste a registration approval procedure with the ITTF of specific designs will happen.
