11 Questions With Seattle's Bernard Iturriaga
(USATT) Want to be featured in the USATT Member Spotlight? Respond to this email indicating your interest and we'll be in touch!
Q: Why do you play?
A: For fun and for health. I discovered the sport in 1992 and got hooked immediately. I've been playing almost nonstop except for injuries since then. I plan to be one of those eighty year olds still playing. I also love that there's so much to learn and regardless of your level you can always improve more and adapt to new things.
Q: Which is your favorite tournament?
A: The big ones in Vegas for sure - The Nationals and the US Open. It's like Disneyland for TT players! Great playing conditions, well run, you have a predictable schedule, lots of events to play until your arm falls off and you get to chat with... Read More

Gordon Kaye Interview at ICC Table Tennis Center
(Courtesy of Butterfly Table Tennis) Neha Nothari Ranavat sits down to ask USATT CEO about his progression from a career in Hockey management to assuming the leading role at USA Table Tennis. Gordon talks about the opportunities which are waiting to come for table tennis, for the clubs, tournaments and players.
"It was a very natural progression for me. I held a long and very enjoyable career in professional hockey at the management level and I think that a lot of the things that I learnt in that career, table tennis is just waiting for".
You can also find further videos to questions with Gordon like how he first started in table tennis and why he thinks table tennis is growing as a serious sport in the US. Watch Now

Video Documentary of Table Tennis Legend Waldner
(Courtesy of The ChristiV) Got an hour to spare? Why not watch this documentary about arguably the greatest player in the history of the sport. For young aspiring stars you can pick up some timeless skills from watching the only European Grand Slam Champion in action. For the old timers it's a perfect chance to reminisce and remember days when Sweden were a powerhouse in the sport, before Chinese dominance took an incredibly firm foothold on the sport.
While the documentary video might be in Swedish it is still very much worth watching as it visits the career of an exceptional table tennis player. Waldner was Olympic Champion in 1992, World Champion in 1989 and 1997 and World Cup Champion in 1990. A true legend and a great documentary. Check it out!

TableTennisDaily Takes World Table Tennis Day to the Streets!
(Courtesy of TableTennisDaily) It took quite some time to get the video together but Dan Ives from TableTennisDaily finally released the long awaited highlights of his April 6th World Table Tennis Day adventures. Teaming up with Pawel Table Tennis, Dan headed out into his local community, Bristol, England, armed with a paddle and a mini-table. Heading from extreme winds to parking lots to indoor office buildings and his own home table tennis club, Dan and Pawel did their best to introduce as many random strangers to table tennis as they could.
It looked like a great day and they certainly did a good job of trying to involve more people in the sport on its special annual day!

Get Your Footwork in Shape with Drills from Stefan Feth (Courtesy of Butterfly) Footwork is one of the aspects of the game which requires the most development and maintenance in table tennis. Here we join US National Coach and WCTTA Head Coach Stefan Feth as he takes us through a basic two point forehand drill.
The great thing about this drill is that it is suitable for players of all levels as it focuses on forehand movements and increases in difficult (speed/timing etc.) as the player's stroke develops more speed and power.
If you haven't got this drill as part of your regular training regime then be sure to add it now! Watch Video

SPiN Ping Pong Club Premiers it's San Fransisco Location
(Courtesy of Felecia Williams/Tech Crunch) Today in San Fransisco, SPiN Ping Pong Club opens its doors to their fifth location (it would've been the sixth if the chain hadn't shut down in Dubai due to a much milder drinking scene). With 19 STIGA tables, two bars, a VIP lounge and an outdoor patio, SPiN is a competitive force by day and bougie club by night. SPiN opens at 11 AM and encourages a family friendly environment during the day before the drinking crowd rolls in. Like other SF bars, SPiN is adults-only in the evening and closes at 2 AM. SPiN's menu features fancy cocktails and gourmet finger foods customized for the location by local chef Mike Betancourt.
"We started in the most innocent, unassuming way," says SPiN co-founder Jonathan Bricklin. "We bought a ping pong table for our loft... Read More

The sign out front reads "The Santa Fe Club", and the flowered cactus plants guard the entrance to this attractive sandstone structure. You've just entered a great new table tennis venue in Oklahoma City that was made possible by the "Australian Connection".
Colin Robertson, President and one of the three owners of The Santa Fe Club will take you on a guided tour through the pleasant lounge area to "the Outback Deli", an Australian touch of hospitality. Next he'll show you the panoramic... Read More
