History of USATT: Volume XV - Chapter 25

(USATT) "The Milk Irish Open Table Tennis Championships, so called because it's sponsored by a milk company, is one of the biggest sporting events in Northern Ireland. All the countries were from Europe with the exception of Japan and the U.S. whose team consisted of Insook Bhushan and me.

This tournament was considered to be a small one, so we saw juniors being brought in to compete in order for them to gain experience. There were eight tables used for the team competition, but this was increased to 12 for the individual championships.

In our first Team tie, we defeated Denmark, 3-1-I dropped the one match to Pea Toelhj.

We were then in the semi's against England. Insook opened... Read More

Judah Friedlander Smashes all Comers at Moontower Ping Pong

(The InterrobangThe second annual Moontower Ping Pong Smackdown was a pretty great way to spend a hot Saturday afternoon in Austin. It was three hours of fierce ping pong and delicious sliders, ice cream and beer - all free!! In the early rounds it was a sea of comedians like Nate Bargatze, Randy Liedtke, Emo Phillips and Emily Heller squaring off against festival goers who commentators the Sklar Brothers gave nicknames like Austin Christian Bale, Plaid on Plaid and Conspiracy Theory Guy.

The Sklars were the real stars of the event early going, making it actually fun and funny to watch four pairs of people hitting a teeny tiny ball back and forth on stage. And their policy of only interviewing the losers of the matches, who were... Read More

Western joined the NCTTA in 2002, but it was not until 2009, under the direction of undergraduate student Cyrus Aga that the team gained the status of a super-competitive sports club, and in 2011, a varsity team. Aga managed and coached the team for five years before handing it over to graduate student Sam Howes, who has now been with the team for six years... Read More

(CBS Sacramento) The smashes come at a rapid pace for members of the Sacramento Table Tennis Club. McAfee's Mechanics: Correcting Movement Problems

(Richard McAfeeDid you know that up to 80% of stroke errors are caused by movement problems?  With this in mind, experienced coaches when observing training focus on watching the lower body first.  Corrections made to the lower body movements often will fix the problems players have in stroke technique.

It is important to remember that movement consists of not only footwork but also body adjustments.  Some athletes move their feet well but have problems controlling the accompanying body adjustments.    One question that coaches often deal with is, "why can a player move well in practice but poorly in actual match play? To understand how this can happen, coaches and athletes need to realize that... Read More
