USA Awarded 2018 World Veteran Table Tennis Championships
(USATTMay 5, 2015 (Colorado Springs, CO) - USA Table Tennis (USATT) announced today that Las Vegas, Nevada has been selected to host the 2018 World Veteran Table Tennis Championship. The largest table tennis tournament in the world, WVC2018 is expected to host up to 5,000 players (age 40 and over) representing over 70 countries from June 18 - June 24, 2018. 

USATT officials were notified of the decision at a meeting of the Swaythling Club International (SCI) in Suzhou, China last Wednesday as part of the ITTF 2015 QOROS World Championships. Las Vegas was selected from a very strong field of competitors which included Suwon (South Korea), Kobe (Japan) and Bordeaux (France).

USATT's April Athletes of the Month: Kanak Jha & Timothy Wang
(USATT2012 Olympian Timothy Wang (Houston, TX) and 14 year old Kanak Jha (Milpitas, CA) have been named the USATT Athletes of the Month for their performance in the Men's Doubles event at the 2015 Qoros World Championships. The doubles team of Wang and Jha reached the round of 32 at the event, which was held in Suzhou, China.

In preliminary round play the American pair beat the team of KHANIN (BLR) / OOSTWOUDER (NED) 3-0, then won by walkover the team of AGONNOUDE / GUIGANFODE (BEN), and then defeated a combined South American team of Mino (ECU) / OLIVARES (CHI) 3-1. Q: Why do you play?

A: For exercise, for competition, and to help others improve. 

Q: Which is your favorite tournament? 

A: As a player, I really loved participating in the US Olympic Festival. As a coach, I enjoyed any Para or NCTTA Championships from the team perspective.  As a volunteer and staffer, the US Open or Nationals are tough to beat to see old friends and commentate on great competition.  

Q: Who is your primary Nemesis?

2014 USATT COY Yang Yu Publishes Game-Changing Research

(USATTCoach Yang Yu of the Austin Table Tennis Club and recent ICECP was selected as a 2014 recipient of the Coach of the Year for USA Table Tennis. Coach Yu's award is named after legendary swim coach James E. "Doc" Counsilman who pioneered the use of video recording and other technologies as coaching tools. It recognizes a coach who similarly utilizes sport science and technology in the advancement of their sport. Yinka Olasoji Interview

(USATT) A little poster hanging on the lockers at Westchester Table Tennis Center reads, "The World Plays in Pleasantville." This is so true! Just last month the club hosted Fouad Abdullah, an Iraqi table tennis player. This month the club has two special guests from Nigeria, uncle and niece duo, Yinka Olasoji and Nike Aroyehun. They have been training at the club everyday for the last couple of days and played their first ever USATT tournament this weekend.

Yinka definitely earned the spotlight at Westchester TTC's February Open. Estimated at 2400, Yinka won several events on Saturday and Sunday, including the Under 2500 after beating Kun Yang (2479) 3-1. Sunday Frame: Asheville Table Tennis Club

(Citizen TimesThe empty gym at the Montford Recreation Center is transformed on Monday nights by rows of blue tables and the echoing ping and pong of tiny white balls sailing through the air.

 

The Asheville Table Tennis Club, which was started in the early '90s, takes over the space three times a week, inviting people of all ages to swing a paddle.

The club has about 45 members - about 10 of whom travel to tournaments - but guests are invited to open play nights for a small fee. Ralph Johnson and Burm Snart, both 76, swear by the sport as a way to keep active in both body and mind.

This week, we're going to take a look at penhold players.
