 FindingGrassesForgotten Grasslands of the South

Penny's Bend Nature PreserveImagine wooly mammoths grazing on fields of grasses. You might picture them munching on Great Plains prairie grasses. But, as we recently found out, those mammoths might just as easily have foraged in southern grasslands.

Last month Hoffman Nursery partnered with the North Carolina Botanical Garden to host a talk by Reed Noss, an ecologist from the University of South Florida. Noss has spent years studying southern grasslands and published his discoveries in a new book, Forgotten Grasslands of the South.
Read more about what Noss has found and about our adventures with him.

ArticleThe Changing Face of Ornamental Grasses

The Changing Face of Ornamental GrassesThe May issue of Greenhouse Grower magazine included an article by our Director of Sales & Marketing, Shannon Currey. In the article, Shannon discusses how demand for ornamental and native grasses has expanded and changed.

Our team talked with people in the green industry. When asked about the future of grasses, Abe Van Wingerden of Metrolina Nurseries said, "...I think we are just scratching the surface of the opportunities."

A School of Grasses

This spring, Hoffman Nursery donated over 6000 grasses for the landscape at a local school. A barren, minimalist landscape has been transformed. Big sweeps of grasses mixed with perennials, trees, and shrubs will create a green wonderland. Read about this gratifying project.

Gala in the Garden

We faced a dragon, wandered among exotic and unusual plants, and had a taste of Asia. The JC Raulston Arboretum's annual fundraiser, Gala in the Garden, offered a range of experiences. Hoffman Nursery was there to drink it all in. Read more.

You Say the Nicest Things

With our new website, we have a place to regularly highlight the feedback our customers give us. One of the nicest, recent comments we received was from a grower located near Philadelphia. He contacted us specifically to say how pleased he was:

"The load of material that we received from you today was probably the nicest material we have ever received from anyone, ever. Thanks for being the best! "

It's very gratifying to hear we're sending out high quality plants and our customers enjoy working with us. We certainly enjoy working with you!
