FROM MR. MARSHALL:
As determined by DeKalb County School District, it is our goal to enroll all students (K-12) in Parent Portal and communicate with parents this action to work more closely with them. Further, it is our goal to establish policy for timely Parent Portal updates by teachers. To guarantee access to all parents/guardians and students this year, DeKalb created individual student accounts in Parent Portal for all currently enrolled students. All elementary school students should be
registered by November 15th. To begin the process of accessing your child's record, you must create an account through ePortal at
http://eportal.dekalb.k12.ga.us (you will need your child's 7 digit student number). After successfully creating your account, using your same username and password you may log into eSIS Parent Assistant at the following website to view grades, attendance, etc.:
TIP: You may also access the eSIS Parent Assistant Login screen through the following link: www.dekalb.k12.ga.us. Click Students then eSIS Parent Assistant (PA) Login.
Thank you for your prompt attention and follow-through.

REFLECTIONS PROGRAM - FUN WAY TO ENCOURAGE CREATIVITY IN YOUR CHILD

Deadline: Wednesday, October 9th!!
Correction: Turn entries into the Library rather than office
Parents: Remember to remind your children to fill out student entry form (see below for details)
The Reflections Program, sponsored by National PTA, is designed to enhance the arts education at Fernbank. The program provides opportunities for students to express themselves and to receive positive recognition for their artistic efforts. Students in preschool through 5th grade are encouraged to create and submit works of art in six areas: dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts (which includes art forms such as drawing, painting, printmaking, and collage).
The Theme for this year is "Believe, Dream, Inspire." The entries will be due on Wednesday, Oct. 9th. Students can turn their art into the Media Center. Judging will take place the week of Oct. 21st. Students will participate in a Reflections reception with Mr. Marshall on Thursday, Oct. 31st at 8:15am where they will receive their ribbons and certificates. Parents, please look over all rules and guidelines at www.georgiapta.org/leadership-reflections.html

FERNBANK YEARLY SHIRT ORDERS

Several of the sizes we reordered for the Fernbank Annual Shirts have been backordered. Because many orders contain backordered shirts, we are going to wait to deliver the shirts until they are all in. The additional shirts should be here the first part of next week. We will get them to your child's teachers as soon as they arrive and not wait for next week's couriers. Thank you for your patience with this matter.

WHAT'S UP IN THE COMPUTER LAB?

4th and 5th Graders have signed on and experienced one of the new Web Sites, Toon University. Unfortunately, due to STAR Reading and Math assessments students have not had the chance to access the new typing program, but this will be happening for grades 3, 4, & 5 as soon as possible. Both Toon University and Learn-2-Type will be accessible from home so students can work on academic activities and games at home as well as at school.

FUND THE FERN 2014 AUCTION

The Fernbank Elementary School Foundation's annual Auction raises funds each year to support and enhance the School's academic and IB offerings, and to be successful, we need your help. The Auction is completely supported by donations from local businesses, teachers, and families.
Your family donations are critical to the Auction, and Fernbank relies on your generosity for these creative, fun and beautiful donations. Below are some examples of previous Family Donations:
Vacation homes, tickets to an art or sporting event, gift certificates to restaurants or businesses, yard work, babysitting, share your professional skills, ready-made dinner party, your grandmother's favorite brownies, jewelry, etc.
Click on the link below for the online family donation form.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!! This year, the "Give, Love, Learn, Fund the Fern" live Auction will be on Saturday, March 29th from 7:30-11:30pm at the Emory Conference Center and Hotel. This is a fabulous, adult only party that you do not want to miss! Contact Sarah Boelhouwer at syboelhouwer@gmail.com or Cathy Zedd at cezedd@bellsouth with any questions.
Thank you!

Thank you in advance to all our parent volunteers who are giving many hours of their time to participate in this program. Without these committed parents the program could not run!
