Make-A-Wish-Foundation Surprises WGES Kindergarten Student
Walnut Grove Elementary kindergarten student Lucas Sun was surprised Friday at school by the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Mickey Mouse helped surprise Lucas with a trip to Disney World in two weeks. See photos and video of the event on Carroll ISD's Facebook page.
Dragons on Spring Break Next Week
Carroll ISD will be closed next week for spring break from March 14-18. All schools and offices will be closed during this time. Schools will resume regular schedules on Monday, March 21 - which will be a "B" day for high school students.
Public Health Reminder for Spring, Summer Travelers
Zika virus disease is occurring in most countries south of the continental United States and many Caribbean countries and territories. Most people infected with the virus do not have symptoms, however; those who do may have a rash, conjunctivitis (red eyes), fever and joint pain that may last up to seven days. A suspected link is being investigated between pregnant women infected wih the virus and severe birth defects. The disease is spread among people primarily by mosquitos. Read more here.

Carroll Soccer Teams Defeat Haltom; End Regular Season Tonight
The Carroll Dragons earned a 2-1 victory against Haltom on Senior Night to clinch a playoff berth in District 7-6A. The Lady Dragons defeated Haltom 11-0 and remain undefeated in district. The Lady Dragons host Senior Night tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Dragon Stadium vs. L.D. Bell. The Dragons play at L.D. Bell at 7:30 p.m. These are the final regular season games for both teams.
Bad Weather Days Reminder
Carroll ISD
has two bad weather days built into each school calendar. The first bad weather day on this year's calendar is Friday, March 25. If the day goes unused it will serve as a school holiday. All schools and offices would be closed. The second bad weather day is Friday, May 27.
Walnut Grove Teachers Receives Honor
Walnut Grove Elementary teacher Judy Leddy was recently honored as a Local 2016 PBS Learning Media Digital Innovator. The PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovators program is a yearlong, free professional development program designed to foster and reward a community of highly engaged, tech-savvy K-12 educators who are using digital media and technology in classrooms. Leddy is a Gifted and Talented Specialist at WGES. She has taught over 30 years and is in her 23rd year teaching GT.
DPAC Hosts Taco Night Fundraiser

Water Polo Team Earns Wins; Five Lady Dragons Bound for ODP
The Lady Dragon water polo team defeated Clear Falls High School 16-2 last weekend as part of exhibition games at the Dutton Tournament hosted by Thunder Water Polo-Southlake. Read more on MySouthlakeNews.com.

Carroll EQ Club Presents Vitality - A Fun Family Experience
The Carroll EQ Club will host an action packed fun day for mind and body development on Saturday, April 9 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It will include fitness and resilience sessions for children and Empathy and Acceptance workshop for parents.
