Be Prepared for Winter Driving

It's important that everyone takes the proper steps to prepare for winter driving.  Failure to do so can result in accidents or being stranded in the cold without proper protection.
  • Have your snow tires or studded tires put on your vehicle as soon as the law allows, replacing any tire that has worn treads.
  • Keep the battery charged and always carry a set of jumper cables and/or alternate battery source.
  • Dress properly for the conditions or have extra clothing and blankets in the vehicle.
  • Fully charge your cell phone daily in case of emergency.
  • Carry extra water and food in the vehicle in case you get stuck or stranded.
  • Keep a flashlight in your vehicle and make sure it has fresh batteries.
  • Make sure your vehicle is in proper running order by staying on top of repairs.
  • Check weather and road conditions before heading out.  Don't drive in bad conditions if possible.

Don't forget the Raffle.  Tire Changeover could be on us!

Fresh November Produce

Many people think it's difficult to get fresh produce during colder months.  While it is difficult to find some fresh fruits and veggies, there are many seasonal vegetables that will keep you satisfied during the colder months. Local, seasonal produce will be cheaper, healthier and more abundant during the cooler months. Here are four vegetables that are seasonal in November as well as recipes to go along with them (great for new Thanksgiving meal ideas)!

Kale

Kale is a form of cabbage, which can be green or purple.
It is very high in beta carotene, vitamin K, vitamin C, and reasonably rich in calcium. Kale, as with broccoli, contains sulforaphane, a chemical with potent anti-cancer properties.
Sweet Potato
With a score of 184, the sweet potato outscored the next highest vegetable by more than 100 points on a health benefits scale. Points were given for content of dietary fiber, naturally occurring sugars and complex carbohydrates, protein, vitamins A and C, iron and calcium.
Leeks
Leeks contain many noteworthy flavonoid anti-oxidants, minerals, and vitamins that have proven health benefits.
Leeks are low in calories. 100 grams of fresh stalks contain 61 calories.
Parsnips
Parsnips are excellent sources of soluble and insoluble dietary fiber.  A 100 g root provides 4.9 mg. Adequate fiber in the diet helps reduce blood cholesterol levels, obesity and constipation conditions.
