 How Elder Lawyers Strengthen an
Advisor's Practice

Dustin MacFarlane, Atty
MacFarlane Legal, Inc.

When it comes to working with aging clients or clients that have aging parents, there are a lot of tough topics to tackle. The intention and goal is always to keep our clients or our clients' parents "warm and safe". How are you having these conversations in your practice?  What solutions are available to accomplish peace of mind and security with the elderly person(s) best interest in mind?

During this meeting, Mr. MacFarlane will cover the following:
1) Senior Care Options around home care, assisted living and memory care
2) How to work with a client or client's parent who receives Public Benefits
3) What is required to keep these benefits and how?
4) Steps to Conservatorship
5) What is a court appointed conservator allowed to do or not do?
6) Asset Protection and Asset Transfer including a discussion around Medi-Cal, Probate Code and Intentionally Defective Irrevocable Trusts.

About the Speaker(s):
Dustin MacFarlane
Dustin MacFarlane began his career in the Long-Term care industry. As he traveled among skilled nursing and assisted living facilities in Northern California and the Central Valley, he began to understand concerns the elderly face when considering long term health care. Questions such as "Can I stay at home?", "What level of care do I need?", and "How am I going to pay for this?" were common.

As a Sacramento County estate planning lawyer, Dustin has made it his mission to help families find practical solutions to the concerns he first heard when working with healthcare facilities. His clients range from the newly married and young families to individuals deep into retirement and facing more severe health issues. He recognizes families often endure most of the stress when providing support for their elderly loved ones.
