Incoming President's Message - Jenny Hood, CFP

Dear Members:

Welcome to 2017! I enjoy this time of year. While it can be a bit stressful, it is always a good time to stop and reflect. We can get so busy with our day-to-day lives that we forget how far we have come and everything that we accomplished in the previous year. This is also true with our board of directors. Therefore, it was my honor to take some time to reflect with the 2016 and 2017 board members at the end of October to talk about the accomplishments of 2016 and where we wanted to be at the end of 2017. And our 2016 board of directors accomplished a lot! We had consistent mixers, we included our community of other professional groups, we had a sponsor host our ethics meeting and a mixer afterwards (thank you Networking Solutions!), our meeting attendance was up over last year, we increased our pro bono activities in our communities and we bumped up our usage of technology with our meeting recap videos and increased traffic on our Facebook site, just to name a few. And of course, the successful NexGen event!  What a great year 2016 was. Continue reading here

I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday season.  I'm honored to serve our chapter as President-Elect in 2017. Over the past several years, I have become more involved on the board with our chapter.  During this time, I have been amazed at how passionate and committed our board and members are to furthering our profession.  This shared passion for our profession was something that I was able to experience firsthand at the Chapter Leadership Conference (CLC) in November.  During the conference, leaders from around the country gathered to share ideas, best practices and their passion for FPA. CLC was truly an awe-inspiring moment.  Looking into 2017, I plan to help our chapter grow by having more networking opportunities and reaching out to financial planning professionals not currently in our group.  Additionally, I will help the sponsorship co-chairs identify additional sponsors not only for our chapter, but also for offsite meetings and mixers.  Thank you for the opportunity to serve as President-Elect for FPA of Northern California in 2017!

Happy New Year to the financial planning community of Greater Sacramento and Northern California. With 2016 in the rear-view mirror, it is time for us to focus on making 2017 an even better year.

In the area of Pro Bono, we are just coming out of the season of giving. I'd like to say thank you to all of you who have given your time and resources to help those who need our help. We are fortunate to be able to be part of a great profession where we are able to help other people (and get paid for it.) Personally, I value the relationships I create as much as the monetary benefits of my work. And I know many of you share that same opinion.

As professionals in the financial services, our time is one of our most precious resources. When you volunteer your time to participate in a pro-bono activity, you are giving away your most valuable commodity. . . your time. And by doing so, you demonstrate that being a financial professional is not all about the money. It is about the impact you have on the lives of your clients and your community.

FPA of California Advocacy Day - March 7, 2017

It's time to participate in our annual "Day on the Hill" happening on March 7th!
We encourage you to attend and be a part of this great relationship building opportunity!  All members are welcome, and since the capitol is right in our own backyard, it makes it super easy to carve out time in your day to be a part of this event!

Membership - Karen Miller, CFP & Dusty Hoetger, CFP
Happy New Year and Thank You to all of our members for making 2016 such a success!

We want to thank Matt Page for being an instrumental part in helping us meet other professionals at our joint mixers in 2016 with CalCPA, South Placer Estate Planning Council, and Sacramento Estate Planning Council. Just a reminder that we don't operate in a vacuum and that it's important to forge these alliances.

As we welcome the New Year and our new Co-Director of Membership, Dusty Hoetger, look for a continuation of the mixers and offsite meetings in 2017, as well as updates on FPA benefits. One advisor at the Regional Chapter Planning Meeting in December shared with us that the software and other discounts paid for his annual FPA membership!

Your suggestions and feedback help us make this chapter and our community a better place. We encourage you to let us know what's on your mind, whether it's a program topic, meeting or mixer location, or volunteer opportunity. We look forward to seeing you in 2017.

NexGen - Alexandria Cole

Thank You! This year was the first formal NexGen year for FPANC and has been
Alexandria Cole
ahuge accomplishment for the chapter because of all the support received from the membership.

We were successful in building a new committee of NexGen members this year and plan to grow the group in 2017. Our NexGen Kick Off Summit had an awesome turnout and we want to Thank ALL of our awesome sponsors again for believing in and encouraging the next generation of planners. We had 64 people in attendance for our event and we got a lot of new information from Alan Moore on what the future looks like for servicing the next generation of clients.

A lot of people in attendance and our membership have been asking about how to get involved with NexGen so we decided the best way is to host a NexGen meeting to explain what NexGen is and allow people to get involved in what NexGen has planned for the 2017 year. If you're interested in volunteering, meeting other NexGen individuals or just curious about the conversation, PLEASE attend our first NexGen meeting of 2017:

When:  Tuesday, January 31, 2017 from 6:00pm-7:00pm
Where:  601 University Avenue, Suite 265, Sacramento, CA 95825
