Summer Lawn Defenses
August 2014

Between the scorching summer sun, drought conditions and insects, August is one of the hardest months on your lawn.  Not sure how your lawn will survive the remainder of the summer heat?  We have some helpful tips to stop those bugs from destroying your yard and a plan to help your lawn bounce back in the coming months.
Grubs getting into your yard

Grub Have you noticed grubs in your lawn?  Grubs cause damage in the lawn by eating the roots and stems of lawn grasses.  They are usually active from late spring into the fall.  To prevent and control new generations of grubs use our Jonathan Green Grub Control.  It will provide long lasting control.  For best results water in after applying.  Grubs are not usually found in shady areas so save time and money by applying Grub Control in the sunny areas of the lawn.

Insects are most active during the warmer summer months and can cause lots of damage to your lawn.  Chinch bugs are particularly destructive because they suck on the grass plants killing them slowly and efficiently.  One of your best defenses against chinch bugs is to plant grass seed mixtures that contain endophytes.  Endophytes are naturally occurring defenses in our Black Beauty grass seed.  If you spot chinch bugs in your lawn use our Organic Insect Control.  It will kill and repel chinch bugs along with ants, fleas, ticks and many others.
Thinking ahead to fall

Many lawns are damaged over the summer due to heat, drought, insects, fungus and more.  Do not worry, there is still time to fix your lawn this fall.  If your lawn needs to be repaired plan on seeding this fall with either Fall Magic or Black Beauty Ultra grass seed.  The same day you seed also apply our Winter Survival Fall Fertilizer to give the grass the nutrients it needs to grow a  healthy root system.  A strong root system will help your lawn survive the cold winter months.  Remember your best defense again common lawn problems is a thick, healthy lawn.   For more helpful tips check out the video below:
