ILA - Make Your Steps Count
International Literacy Day shines a spotlight on global literacy needs, which goes hand in hand with Interational Literacy Association's (ILA) mission: literacy for everyone, everywhere. On International Literacy Day (and every day), ILA advocates for a literate world, supports literacy educators and leaders, and celebrates the power of literacy.

We're lacing up our sneakers and counting our steps to experience how far some students have to go each and every day just to get to school-and you can, too! Download this special kit with instructions on how to participate in this initiative as an individual, class, school, or community, and raise your awareness of the accessibility of education around the world.

The National Student/Parent Mock Election gives American students all across the country the opportunity to cast their votes for candidates in both the federal and state elections.  They may also vote on the issues they care about.
This program builds on the 36-year history of the National Student/Parent Mock Election. In 2016, national student voting begins on October 24 and culminates on November 3, National Mock Election day, 5 days in advance of the nation's election.

"The National Student/Parent Mock Election is proud to announce a new partnership for 2016," said Gloria Kirshner, president. Win My Vote will be providing online ballots featuring multimedia candidate and ballot issue profiles for this project. Students, parents, teachers and home schoolers will be able to hear directly from each candidate (video) as well as the leading arguments "for" and "against" the ballot issues before casting their vote. The ballots are browser based (no downloaded needed) and can be easily accessible via any internet-enabled device (computers, tablets, smartphones, etc.). The ballots will also provide for real-time voting stats on how the candidates and ballot issues are doing."  Have your educators and students ENROLL today. Curriculum guides will be ready soon.

9_11 Memorial Lesson Plans
The National September 11 Memorial & Museum has partnered with the New York City Department of Education and the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education to develop a robust set of 9/11 lessons for K-12 classrooms.

Each lesson is tied to the Common Core Standards. Grounded in our collections, they are written for use throughout the school year and across subjects, including Social Studies, History, English Language Arts, and Art.

September 17 is recognized in the United States as Constitution Day and Citizenship Day. The purpose of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day is to commemorate the creation and signing of the supreme law of the land and to honor and celebrate the privileges and responsibilities of U.S. citizenship for both native-born and naturalized citizens. Federal law requires that all schools receiving federal funds hold an educational program for their students on September 17 of each year. The Center for Civic Education has a range of free lesson plans available on their website for students in Grades K-12.
