FAMILY ENGAGEMENT IN EDUCATION
- TIP OF THE MONTH -
The Learning Community Even Little Things Make a Difference
Sit with your child while he or she does homework. Just your physical presence helps your child fight restlessness and concentrate better. Being able to discuss the work with you makes homework less frustrating when your child is doing something difficult and even more exciting when your child is working on something interesting.

Let your child see you reading, and read to young children whenever possible. This one activity can be essential to your child's academic success. Achievement in all subjects improves with good reading skills.

Celebrating Law Day 2016
Free 2 col x 10" series of 6 features for May
The NYNPA Newspaper In Education Program has partnered with the Law, Youth and Citizenship Program of the NYS Bar Association to create a series of six 2 column x 10" features to focus on this year's theme, Miranda: More Than Words.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of perhaps the nation's best-known U.S. Supreme Court case, Miranda v. Arizona. The Miranda Warning has become ingrained in law enforcement and has permeated popular consciousness through countless recitations in films and television shows.

Yes, we've all heard Miranda but how much do we really understand? The multi-part series of features will dig deeper into the background, meaning, Constitutional principles, rights and protections associated with this year's Law Day theme, Miranda: More than Words.

Complete with an 18 page teaching guide with graphic organizers, this series includes engaging lessons easily adaptable for differentiated instruction. The guide also has a listing of weblinks to many other free, related, educational resources.

All components of this project are FREE and available for download at
