Saddle up your horses - it's Equestrian time!
 
The 2016 State Equestrian Tournament is coming up this month in Clovis and SONM athletes, and their horses, are training for the competition.

From September 16th-17th almost 40 Special Olympics athletes will compete at the Clovis Events Center, showcasing their unique talents and the special relationship with the horses that they ride.

Special Olympics New Mexico recieves $10,000 grant from The UPS Foundation

Special Olympics New Mexico (SONM) received a $10,000 grant from The UPS Foundation, which drives global corporate citizenship and philanthropic programs for UPS.

The grant will be used toward SONM's Unified Sports programs that run throughout the entire year. The Unified Sports Program brings together Special Olympics athletes and individuals without intellectual disabilities to train and compete on the same team.  Unified Sports enables athletes to learn new sports, develop higher-level sports skills, and interact with people who they may have never had the opportunity to meet.

"Whenever SONM receives a large corporate contribution, I always like looking at that company's core values to see what may have inspired them to give," stated SONM Executive Director, Randy Mascorella. "The UPS Foundation's gift in support of Special Olympics Unified Sports Programs aligns perfectly with their TEAMWORK value. Thank you UPS for increasing our capacity to provide programs where individuals of all ability levels can play, socialize, and learn as a team."

"The UPS Foundation is honored to support Special Olympics New Mexico's efforts to provide sports programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities and improve their quality of life," said Eduardo Martinez, president of The UPS Foundation and chief diversity and inclusion officer at UPS. "Our goal is to fund powerful programs that make a lasting difference to the global community."

Dinner Under the Stars this Friday!  

The first-ever Dinner Under the Stars is this Friday at the Banque Lofts, Rooftops, and Penthouse. We would like to thank Interface Mortgage, the Presenting Sponsor of this event, for their generous support and also David Stroud of the Banque Lofts for donating the space and organizing the details of the evening.   

We would also like to thank the very talented chefs who have volunteered their time to make this evening delicious! Thank you Tony Saccoccia of High Noon Restaurant & Saloon, Ryan Hickey of Nantucket Shoals Seafood Market, Cristina Martinez of Artichoke Café, St. Clair Winery, and
 Sugar Crush Sweet Studio.  
 
We expect this event to be filled with good food and drink, good music, and good company! If you didn't get a chance to get a ticket for this dinner before it sold out, keep your ears and eyes open for more events like this in the coming months! 
Save the Date for the Posole Ole Fun Walk!  

The holiday season will be here before we know it, and you don't want to miss the most festive way to kick off the holidays - the Posole Ole Fun Walk and 5K! The event will take place on December 3rd at the Anderson-Abruzzo International Balloon Museum. 

In addition to the crafts, pictures with Santa, delicious posole, and the walk around the Balloon Fiesta park, this year there will also be a 5K Run! The 5K will also take place at the Balloon Museum and there will be registration info coming soon!
