Thoughts from Randy
Not just a cookie

Yesterday morning, Mike Silva owner of Rude Boy Cookies and Special Olympics athlete Tim Harris, went on the 2 KASA Morning Show to promote the Rude Boy Cookies for a Cause Campaign.  You wouldn't think a morning TV show would serve the purpose of providing its listeners with meaningful thoughts worthy of personal consideration.  You may not have expected those thoughts to come from the owner of a cookie shop and a man born with Down Syndrome, but it's a perfect example of life providing small treasures in unexpected places.

I invite you to listen to this interview.

2016 Golf Classic raises over $80,000 for Special Olympics New Mexico

This past Monday, July 13th, Paa-ko Ridge Golf Club hosted the annual SONM Golf Classic presented by New Mexico Chevy Dealers. The tournament was completely sold out with 48 teams total and we welcomed 72 new golfers to the tournament.

"The great thing about this year's Golf Classic is that so many golfers who had never played in our tournament were given the opportunity to participate," stated SONM Executive Director Randy Mascorella." That means, that over 70 people were introduced to our organization and our mission through a quality event, which is the goal of every special event we host."

UNM Basketball Coach Craig Neal welcomed golfers and thanked them for supporting Special Olympics. UNM Athletics sent several golfers who participated in the tournament - Vice President of Athletics Paul Krebs,  Baseball Head Coach Ray Birmingham, Senior Associate Athletic Director Kole McKamey, and Deputy Athletic Director Janice Ruggerio. Six Special Olympics athletes also played the challenging course, showing their skills outside of the Special Olympics sports arena.

Special thanks to Paa-ko Ridge Golf Club for being  wonderfully hospitable and making the tournament enjoyable for everyone on the course.

Congratulations to this year's Golf Classic winners!
