Thoughts From Randy
Expectations

Last week twelve Special Olympics New Mexico athletes, partnering with the New Mexico Technology Council and FatPipe ABQ, went through a two-day course learning how to use social media, email, search engines, blogs and the Microsoft Suite, for the purpose of spreading the word about Special Olympics.  These twelve, as part of our Athlete Leadership Program, will now serve as "Technology Ambassadors."  The training was far more in-depth than I expected, and as amazed as I was with our athletes and the way they glided through the process, I was equally impressed with those who taught them.

This is our biggest competition of the year and it wouldn't be nearly as successful without our fantastic sponsors! Thank you for all you do and for making these games the best that they can be.

Law Enforcement Torch Run News!

Santa Fe prepares for the North Leg passing of the Torch

Our 2016 LETR State Relay Run continued last week with LETR agencies carrying our Flame of Hope torch from the four corners of New Mexico.

The State Relay Run continues this week as the torch makes its way to Albuquerque for the Final Leg run and lighting of the Olympic cauldron to kick off the 2016 Special Olympics New Mexico State Summer Games.

One of the many highlights throughout our relay run is the arrival of the torch in Santa Fe. This year, the event takes place at the Santa Fe Plaza, where LETR officers, friends, and families will gather to celebrate the uniting and passing of the torch on Thursday, May 19th. The torch will arrive at 3:00pm carried by a number of our North Region LETR agencies.

For more information about the LETR at the Santa Fe Plaza, contact Oscar Solis at 505.856.0342 or email torchrun@sonm.org.

LETR State Relay Run Final Leg and post-run dinner set for Friday, May 20th

Just a reminder to join your local Law Enforcement Torch Run officers from around the state for the final three miles from the ABQ Civic Plaza to the SONM State Summer Games Opening Ceremonies at the UNM Track and Field Complex, where LETR officers will light the Olympic cauldron to kick off the Games.

Afterwards, a dinner for all LETR officers and their family members will be served in the "big tent" at the southeast parking lot of the UNM Track Complex.
