Thoughts from Randy
Where Ever - When Ever

In 2011, 7-Eleven contributed $750 in support of Special Olympics New Mexico.  Inspired by our athletes, a few months later their Region Manager met with us wanting to do more - resulting in the first 7-Eleven Torch Run Icon Campaign.  Stores in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho agreed to sell Law Enforcement Torch Run paper icons to their customers for $1 each.  Two weeks ago Special Olympics New Mexico was presented a check for $32,589 from 7-Eleven, the result of the fifth annual six-week Torch Run Icon Campaign.  Here are my thoughts about that.

Big news for Unified Flag Football!

Special Olympics New Mexico is moving Flag Football from the Four Corners Invitational to its own independent tournament. The competition will take place on August 9 at Balloon Fiesta Park from 3 pm - 8 pm.

Our hope is that the move to a one-day tournament will give more athletes statewide to participate in this Unified Sport.

There is no fee for this tournament, there will be no Area competition, and meals will not be provided. Teams are encouraged to schedule a scrimmage game between other SONM teams or community-based flag football teams prior to August 9.  We will award medals and will issue a tournament tee shirt so please submit your tee shirt sizes with your registration packet.

Celebrate the Unified Relay Across America in Santa Fe on June 30

On Tuesday, June 30 from 6pm - 8pm, the Unified Relay Across America will host a free musical celebration at the Santa Fe Plaza celebrating the arrival of the 2015 World Games Flame of Hope torch.

The evening includes live music, comments from key Special Olympics supporters and Bank of America representatives, as well as a ceremonial passing of the Torch.  The musical guest will be Baracutanga-a local New Mexican band that offers a "flavor of South America with rhythms of Peru , Brazil, Colombia and more, this experienced group of musicians will keep you dancing all night."

Join us and take part in the Unified Relay Across America presented by Bank of America, an event that is unifying the nation as it delivers the Flame of Hope to Los Angeles for the Special Olympics World Games.
