Thoughts from Randy

Of all the things that happen during our State Summer Games, one of my favorites is the Opening Ceremonies.  I love watching all 900 athletes march into the stadium, proudly representing their communities, their teams, and their families.  I love watching the Knights of Columbus reverently bring in the flags and the silence that falls over everyone right before we honor our country.  I love listening to the athletes chosen to recite the Special Olympics oath in English, Spanish, and Navajo.  And I love the excitement of the Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg, as the officers and their families run into the stadium carrying our torch.

One thing that always amazes me about our Opening Ceremonies is the chemistry that evolves between our two Masters of Ceremonies - Tim Harris and Jamie Imai...

The "You Share. We Share" campaign encourages the community to get out and share their weekends with SUBWAY® restaurants, and SUBWAY® will share right back by donating a percentage of weekend sales, up to $25,000, directly to Special Olympics New Mexico.  As locally owned and operated franchises, SUBWAY® is excited to be able to further its commitment to the local community.

Law Enforcement Torch Run News!

Belen Police Department raises over $1,000 at Texas Roadhouse Tip-A-Cop

On Tuesday, May 5, Law Enforcement Torch Run officers from Belen Police Department returned to the Duke City to raise over $1,000 during the first annual ABQ Texas Roadhouse Tip-A-Cop.

Six BPD officers traded their badges for aprons as patrons were greeted at the door and at their table with LETR brochures and friendly conversation. LETR merchandise such as the LETR 2015 shirt, challenge coins, and pins were sold to push the Torch Run presence out to the community.  If you're interested in getting involved in Torch Run visit our Regions & Agencies page to find your local agency contact, or contact us at torchrun@sonm.org.

LETR's inaugural Pic Quik torch icon campaign raises $10,000 in Las Cruces

For over four weeks, in conjunction with LETR's Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department, Pic Quik employees in Las Cruces helped raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics through the Law Enforcement Torch Run's torch icon campaign-where patrons purchased icons and were displayed all around the inside of each store.

The campaign ended May 31 raising a total of $10,000, which will directly benefit Special Olympics local Las Cruces programs as well as statewide training competition. Special thanks to Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department and Pic Quik staff for a great first year.
