Sixth annual Mayor's Indoor Invitational this weekend

For the sixth year in a row, Mayor Richard Berry, in partnership with City of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation Department, will host this unique event for New Mexico's Special Olympics athletes. From 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, this Saturday February 21st athletes from all over the state will come together as the only Special Olympics program in the country with the opportunity to participate in Track and Field events on an indoor track. Mayor Berry will give SONM athletes a person welcome from 10:00 am -10:15 am.

"To be able to run on the Indoor Track - one of the best of its kind in our country - is awesome," stated SONM Executive Director Randy Mascorella. "Special Olympics New Mexico has this opportunity because Mayor Berry believes that our athletes, like all athletes, are worthy of the experience. When community leaders of influence give people with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate - in my opinion, it speaks well of our community and how welcoming we are."

The 2015 Mayor's Invitational Indoor Track Meet is made possible through the City of Albuquerque Department of Parks and Recreation and through the University of New Mexico Athletics, who provide day-of-event volunteers to assist SONM athletes throughout the day.
