Thoughts From Randy
Happy New Year!

It's almost weird how many people have asked me if I've made any New Year's Resolutions.  When I was much younger, I used to make my list - eat healthier, read more, travel more, etc.  Having had the privilege of being in the presence of our Special Olympics athletes the past 25 years, my thinking on the matter of those New Year's resolutions has changed from what I hope to do in the next year to who I hope to become.

It's a New Year - Poly Hockey season is OPEN!

Welcome to 2015, sports fans - and to another Poly Hockey season! Poly Hockey is one of SONM's most action-packed sports and our athletes love it. For those of you who aren't familiar with the sport, it's like ice hockey - minus the ice and the skates. SONM athletes go head-to-head with masks, pads, and a high level of intensity!

The 2015 State Poly Hockey Championships will take place in Farmington, NM at McGee Park from February 27-28. Qualifying Area competitions will take place throughout late January and early February.

For more information, click HERE. See you in Farmington, hockey fans!

Law Enforcement Torch Run News!

We'll be "Freezin' for a Reason" at the 2014 LETR Polar Plunge - you should too!

Interested in taking a plunge into freezing cold water on behalf of Special Olympics New Mexico? On Saturday, January 24th the NW Region's Law Enforcement Torch Run Farmington Police Department will once again be hosting its annual LETR Polar Plunge outside of the Farmington Recreation Center. This unique pledge-based fundraiser is a great way to raise money for SONM while also testing your courage!

Participants can either plunge individually or as a team! If you're too chicken to plunge? Hang out in the chicken coop! Each plunger and chicken must collect a "bear" minimum of $100 in donations ($50 for kids 10 & under). Costumes are encouraged!

There will be prizes for most money raised and best costume in both individual and team categories! To register, click HERE. For questions or more information on registration contact Shawn Archuleta at 505-320-7347 or Jenny Dennis at 505-860-7620.
Join us as we Reveal the Champion!

SONM will continue to host Reveal the Champion Mission Tours in 2015! Reveal the Champion Mission Tours are one hour tours at the SONM office where athletes, staff, and family members provide meaningful information about how Special Olympics New Mexico transforms lives through sport, builds inclusive communities, and improves quality of life for our athletes. Whether you have been involved with Special Olympics for years or are brand new to the  Movement, you will learn something more about the depth of our work and the impact on our communities.

The next Reveal the Champion Mission Tour will take place on January 21st at the SONM office promptly at 12 pm. The tour will take exactly one hour and a box lunch will be provided. If you are interested in attending, or know someone who would like to learn more about our organization, contact Christine Roybal at 505-856-0342 or christine@sonm.org.
