Thoughts From Randy
Mrs. Shriver

This Saturday Special Olympics will celebrate our founder, Eunice Kennedy Shriver.  You can Google EKS Day to find out more about the focus of the day - how our youth around the world are wildly embracing inclusion through Unified Sports.  It's exciting beyond words.

Today, however, while thinking about Mrs. Shriver I had one thought.

State Equestrian - a Success!

The 2014 State Equestrian Competition brought together 40 talented athletes and their spirited horses in Clovis September 12-13. SONM athletes showcased their unique skills at one of the best equestrian arenas in the state.

Although this is not the biggest SONM competition, the performances were vibrant as our athletes competed in the barrel run, figure 8 stake, and many more events!

Over the Edge - Photos and other news!

Over the Edge for Special Olympics New Mexico took place last Friday and over 70 brave participants rappelled down the 16-story New Mexico Bank and Trust Building for the benefit of SONM athletes!

If you rappelled, know someone who rappelled, or just want to see what this event is all about, you can view photos taken by our awesome group of photographers! Special thanks to Peggy Boyar, Alan Boyar, and Kathy Dubay for volunteering their time to capture this event.

Special Olympics El Tour!

Special Olympics El Tour is America's largest perimeter bicycling for cyclists of all ages and abilities and is held annually on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, attracting more than 9,000 cyclists from throughout the United States and worldwide. Cyclists may ride the 104-mile perimeter course around Tucson or elect to ride the 75, 55 or 40 mile El Tour. There is also a Fun Ride of 12, 5 or 1/4 miles.

Since 1983 Special Olympics El Tour has raised over $40 million for various nonprofit organizations. The primary beneficiary, and sponsor, of the 2014 El Tour is Special Olympics.

Riding in Special Olympics El Tour can be a life changing experience and it can also be life changing for those that El Tour supports; specifically children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics, the primary beneficiary of this years' El Tour strives to create a better world by fostering the acceptance and inclusion of all people. Through the power of Special Olympic sports, people with intellectual disabilities discover new strengths and abilities, skills and success.
