I was in a business leadership session the other day and took part in an exercise that I found interesting enough to share with you.  I am not one who usually participates in these kind of things with a good attitude, because for whatever the reason, they drive me crazy but this one got me thinking and hopefully, it will get you thinking, too.

Athletes prepare for 2014 Four Corners Invitational!

As August quickly approaches, SONM athletes are getting ready to head to Farmington for the 2014 Four Corners Invitational (FCI) from August 22-24. Athletes will have the chance to participate in Golf, Aquatics, Unified Softball and, in its second year, Unified Flag Football! The 2014 FCI is presented by Conoco Phillips.

Dinner & Auction - a smashing success!

The 2014 SONM Dinner & Auction brought together hundreds of Special Olympics supporters - many who have been involved for years and many who have just recently been introduced to the organization. They were introduced to the Special Olympics athletes in attendance and were also given the opportunity to see what true courage looks like during Kayla Millican's moving Rhythmic Gymnastics performance.

Thanks to the generous attendees, the Dinner & Auction raised over $59,000 - all of which will go directly back Special Olympics New Mexico, giving more athletes the chance to compete in the sports that they love.

Thanks to the New Mexico Chevrolet Dealers, the Presenting Sponsor of the Dinner & Auction, along with the other sponsors who helped to make this event possible. To view photos from the event, click HERE.

Law Enforcement Torch Run News!

The Mighty Mighty Torch Run - Blog
Opportunity. Torch Run has plenty.

Opportunity is a powerful concept. It forms in us thoughts and feelings of hope, new beginnings, advancement, and achievement-especially when it's made available and easily accessible. You could say that opportunity is part of the path to a more fulfilling life.  But one of our first steps, if not the most important, is for us to regard it-and in our Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics, it not only available and accessible, but also plentiful.

So what opportunities are there in our LETR program? Let's start with our LETR agencies. Torch Run provides a handful of ongoing opportunities to showcase an agency's commitment to community service, community leadership, and officer well-being. From there our LETR officers have ample opportunities to meet and support members of their community, learn the needs and capabilities of our Special Olympics athletes, and fulfill the role as guardians of a hope that urges their respective local communities to engage in an understanding, respect, and acceptance of all people.
