About a month ago Special Olympics New Mexico sent sixteen athletes to Princeton, New Jersey to participate in the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games.  Over 3500 athletes from all 50 states competed in sixteen different sports.  Unlike the neglect and abuse these athletes face most of the time, New Jersey did a great job of honoring them with deafening cheers and thunderous applause.  As one reporter put it: "The athletes' performances were inspiring, and they changed the hearts of all who watched them - one perception at a time."

Golf Classic - Another great tournament!

The 2014 Golf Classic took place on Monday July 14th and it was another stellar success! As always, Paa-ko Ridge Golf Club was a picturesque, and challenging setting for this annual tournament. The tournament was completely sold out with 48 teams - 192 golfers-participating, six of which are Special Olympics New Mexico athletes!

Three teams emerged victorious at this year's tournament. Third place with a score of 58 went to With, With, Bardon, and Ransom. Second place with a score of 58 went to Madrid, Molina, Lang, and Manzanares. And first place with a score of 57 went to Sivage Berger, Braden, and Haberstroh. Congratulations to all of the winners and thank you to all who participated.

The tournament generated $71,000, all of which will go towards program costs and providing more sport opportunities for SONM athletes.

Catherine's Cache supports SONM!

Catherine's Cache is a new business in Old Town Albuquerque whose vision is to bring unique fashion and accessory lines, as well as great gift ideas to the area. Catherine's Cache was in Pennsylvania for nearly 10 years before its relocation to Albuquerque. Catherine's favorite product in the store is "Got All Your Marbles?", a sterling silver jewelry collection that includes an assortment of interchangeable marbles to match every outfit.

Shortly after opening her store, owner Catherine Webster was introduced to the programs and services offered by Special Olympics New Mexico. Catherine and her husband then  committed to donating $5 from each purchase from the Got All Your Marbles? Jewelry collection to SONM and one other Albuquerque charity. In the eight weeks since opening the doors they have already sold nearly 100 pieces.

While Catherine's Cache is presently up and running, there will be a Grand Opening Saturday August 23rd from 11 am - 6 pm. There will be music, prizes and refreshments. The Owners of Got All Your Marbles? will be attending the event. We encourage So Brief readers to stop by the store and support a local business as well as Special Olympics New Mexico!

Catherine's Cache is located in Old Town at 2047 South Plaza Street NW, Albuquerque, NM 87104. For more details call 505-243-0378 or e-mail cache@pennswoods.net.
