Two weeks ago, Team New Mexico athletes and coaches going to New Jersey to compete in the 2014 USA Games gathered for a team meeting in Albuquerque. The athletes received their uniforms and attended training sessions with their coaches

July 14th is the SONM Golf Classic, held at Paa-ko Ridge Golf Club. The picturesque course will once again be the venue for this charity golf tournament benefiting the athletes of Special Olympics New Mexico. Representatives from UNM Athletics and Special Olympics athletes will be in attendance! Scramble play will begin at 9 am and there will be a raffle with plenty of exciting prizes! The Dinner & Auction will take place on July 19th at the Embassy Suites on Woodward Pl from 5pm - 9pm. Our sixth annual Over the Edge for Special Olympics is back...and now offering a more "collective experience" for all new and returning Over The Edge participants.

Over The Edge for Special Olympics is both a fundraising campaign AND special event made up of a community of individuals, organizations, and businesses (aka our "League of Edgers"). This group collectively raises funds and awareness for Special Olympics, and celebrates with a 16-story rappelling adventure in downtown Albuquerque in September.
 
Our "Edgers" raise funds and awareness regularly, and meet up monthly to inform, educate, inspire, and celebrate one another through the journey of each individual's or team's respective fund raising goal. Plus, there are lots of new and exciting incentives to keep you motivated! Join us next week to learn more or to get started on your Journey to the Edge...

SOUTHEAST Region LETR agencies raise over $1,000 in first-annual LETR 5K Run/Walk for Special Olympics

On Saturday, April 5th, SOUTHEAST Region LETR's Carlsbad Police Department Corporals hosted the town's (and the region's) first-ever Torch Run for Special Olympics special event.

Their first annual 5K Run/Walk had  48 registered runners and raised over $1,000. Deputies from Eddy County Sheriff's Office were also present. The highlight of the event came at the end when Special Olympics Carlsbad athlete and track-star Terrance Orgain bounded across the finish line to take first place overall in just under 20 minutes. Special thanks to our LETR officers Charlie Garcia and Tony Baca, SONM Area 4 Director Carolyn Olson and her Carlsbad Special Olympics athletes, and the Carlsbad community who came out to support their local Law Enforcement Torch Run!

USA Games athletes need your help! Before the sixteen Team New Mexico athletes are able to compete in New Jersey this summer, they have to get there! If you would like to help sponsor an athlete to go to USA Games, we are asking for $100 donations to go towards flights from Albuquerque to New Jersey.
