Kiki Saavedra - Our Champion.
 
Henry "Kiki" Saavedra was elected to the House of Representatives in 1977 and for the last 37 years has provided excellent service to New Mexico as a state representative. He was the Chair of the Appropriations and Finance Committee and a member of the Transportation and Public Works Committee,  the Legislative Finance Committee, and  many others.  This year, Kiki is retiring from his influential tenure as a legislator. What he may not fully realize, however, is how much influence he has had on Special Olympics New Mexico. 

 

The first House Bill that Kiki passed in 1982 was to support Special Olympics. Since then Kiki has been our Champion in the legislature. Although we may all have ideas about what people in government do and don't do, Kiki has remained true in supporting New Mexicans with intellectual disabilities through the joy of sport.

2014 Mayor's Indoor Invitational Track Meet next weekend!
 
SONM's annual Mayor's Indoor Invitational Track Meet is on March 8th at the Albuquerque Convention Center's indoor track facility. This marks the fifth year that Mayor Richard Berry, the City of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation Department, and ABQ Team Fit have presented this unique opportunity for our athletes. 

Thank you to Mayor Berry, Bank of Albuquerque, UNM's Lobo Football Team, and the City of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation Department for making this unique event possible!

Law Enforcement Torch Run News!                    

SOUTH CENTRAL NMLETR Guns & Hoses Hockey Game!

Join local police officers and firefighters as they go head-to-head in a charity ice hockey
 game for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics! The game will take place on March 22 from 4 pm - 7 pm at the Outpost Ice Arena in Albuquerque. 

Come out and watch live ice hockey in the Duke City and support NM Law Enforcement Torch Run!! Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 15 & under. Please contact Oscar Solis at 505-856-0342 for more information or click HERE.
